Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tiffany Torbeck
Instead of presenting dry facts about the rules of football, this book chronicles football from its start at Ivy League colleges to the wildly popular NFL. Football looked much different in 1889 when it started, but improvements were made all along the way by legendary coaches and players. Readers will recognize the names of popular players, but they will also learn about former college and professional stars. Special pop-out boxes explain football traditions like homecoming and Monday Night Football as well as further introduce famous players and coaches. The writing is well paced and clear and will entertain readers. Extra features include a timeline, glossary, index, and list of famous players and coaches. While most football books only discuss one team or player, this book concisely sums up an entire history and will give readers just enough information to make them curious for more. This would make a great introduction leading readers to other biographies of famous football players. Every library needs a good, comprehensive history of America's most popular game, and this volume will work quite nicely. Reviewer: Tiffany Torbeck
