Overview

In this conclusion to the York Trilogy, is Dan closer to answering his questions, and discovering who left the footprints at the window?
Dan has had enough of the uncertainty surrounding his life these days. While he may not be able to change his family's troubling secret, he intends to put a stop to his encounters with mysterious gypsies — both in the present and the past.
By summoning the gypsies to join him, Dan is once again propelled into the past, this time to the era of the Black Death. Will Dan survive the widespread disaster that threatens to destroy the world as he knows it? And if so, will it change him forever?
Dan's journey begins with Shadows on the Wall and continues with Faces in the Water.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
To better understand the last book in the "York Trilogy," one must read the first and second books. Naylor's conclusion of this trilogy follows a time travel tale about a boy named Dan who is involved with a band of gypsies. He finds himself in Europe facing the Black Death and trying to help his friends. The story opens with Dan back in his own time and in his grandmother's cottage. They are talking about the gypsies. Later, Dan goes into the woods to try and find them and enters into the past where he gets the Black Death but survives. While there, he tries to help a girl named Orlenda and her family escape the ravages of this terrible illness. Eventually he travels back to his own time wondering how Orlenda and her family made out. Then he receives a letter from a friend telling what happened to Orlenda. It seems all turned out well. It is best to read the first and second books of the Trilogy first, to better understand Footprints at the Window.
