FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander is a goddess.  An actual frickin’ goddess. And her mission is clear, see that justice is served at all times or her days as a goddess are numbered. Helene’s new FBI partner defines good-looking, but Miguel Sanchez, wants nothing to do with her ends-justify-the-means attitude. He knows through experience the type of guilt her actions can bring and Miguel wants nothing to do with Helene’s careless ways. Even if she’s so damned hot she makes him burn with the need. When the serial killer they’re tracking strikes again, Helene and Miguel are drawn into a case that will challenge their most fundamental beliefs about justice and vengeance. But it’s the passion between them that forces a goddess to choose: eternal life with all her powers...or death—to save the man she loves.

I haven't read The Calling series so I wasn't familiar with the characters or premise of this spin-off series.  I have to say that I enjoyed this book more as I read the books that followed it.  It is in this book that we meet the secondary characters that will take over the series Diana Reyes and Jesus Hernandez.  This book stands alone as we meet Nemesis, Goddess of Vengeance and Justice on earth as FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander.  She and her new partner, SA Miguel Sanchez  have to find and apprehend the serial killer known as "The Butcher". Can a human teach a Goddess that Justice and Vengeance aren't always the same thing and the ends don't always justify the means. I don't know but he can and does teach her a few things about love.  This is a super, sexy paranormal romantic suspense novel.

FOR LOVE OR VENGEANCE by Caridad Pineiro is an exciting Paranorm

FOR LOVE OR VENGEANCE by Caridad Pineiro is an exciting Paranormal Romance. It is the first in a four book “Reborn Vampire” Novel series. What happens when a Goddess meets a serial killer and a new FBE partner? Well, you must read “For Love or Vengeance” to find out, of course. But let me tell you a little about the players: Helene Alexander, who is not just an FBI Special Agent but a goddess as well. She is the Goddess of Justice. Then there, is her new FBI partner, Miguel Sanchez, who wants nothing to do with her, he does not like her brand of justice, the ends-justify-the means. He knows how that turns out in the long run. Then we have the serial killer, oh, I’ll not tell you about this person, it would spoil the fun! Now we have a story filled to the brim with passion, secrets, murder, justice, vengeance, suspense, mystery, and love. Fast paced, I read it in one setting. Well written, which Ms. Pineiro is known for writing. And then we have engaging, charismatic characters who will steal your heart, well, some won’t,but most will. Helene, must chose between the man she has come to love, her Goddessism(is there which a word?),oh well, does she want to remain immortal or become mortal to save the man she loves with all her heart. Well, you will have to read “For Love or Vengeance” to learn the secrets of Miguel and Helene. You will not regret or be disappointed. A must read for anyone who enjoys Paranormal romance with a few twists and turns. Well done, Ms. Pineiro. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

*Future Releases in the “Reborn Vampire” Novels are as follows(tentatively)*

It is the first time that I read something by Caridad Piñeiro.Shame on me!This book by her it is awesome.

When I receive the book to do a review a dint`t read the decription. Rarely I do.Because I want the book to surprise me.And this one it dit.

When I start to read it,and I was that it was about Goddesses and Gods I was a little disappointed, because I want to read something different. How wrong I was.In fist chapter we read about Zeus, and who he cheating her daughter, Nemesis, goddesses of Vengeance to spend the time on Earth to punish the guilty eople. So like everyone I was judgment the whole book by this one chapter.

And when I start to read chapter to,my all heart was floats. It is not that i`ve read before. So,chapter to we carry after many many years, when Helene(Nemesis)it is in FBI and stil punish the guilty people.Only this time with be different.Because she will have a new partner,Miguel(I love Spanish people:x)who will change her whole life. The chemistry between them is so powerfull and so spicy that gave me tingling on my spine.

Being patners they can not be in love with each other, because they will compromise the judgment of Helene. If she let one person guilty get away, she will be punish. But she will thing that the punish is to return on Olympus, but it is something alse.Much more.

This book it is perfect. Absolutely perfect.I dint`t know that I will love it so much.I`m so glad that I have read this book.It is a unique story. You wont regret it.The action, the love, judgment, and all the things in the book are perfect written. I`m so grateful that author Caridad Piñeiro wrote this story.Thank you very much.

***Received from Entangled Publishing for an honest review***

I absolutely loved the pacing of this story. I'll admit that it felt slow in the beginning, but I discovered the slowness served a purpose because every detail, every conversation, every narrative pulled you deeper and deeper into a terrific love story. As a reader, I really like to watch as the relationship between the main characters evolves from strangers to acquaintainces to friends to lovers. This story did just that.

But it's not just the romance between Miguel and Helene that's intriguing. The case their forced to work together is just as interesting. A serial killer preying on actors, posing them purposefully after they're dead, the crime scenes, the clues, the brainstorming. The suspense built as Miguel and Helene raced against time to find the killer and bring him to justice before another actor is killed, and the ending to the case was climactic.

But it was the twist after the case that came as a surprise.

Ms. Pineiro did a fantastic job telling a story about a woman so hell bent on fulfilling her vow to her father she's nothing short of cold and indifferent, and a man just as determined to pick away at her icy façade to the warm and caring person he seems to know is buried in her somewhere.

This is the first time I've read anything by Ms. Pineiro, and I look forward to reading more of her stories in the future.

Enjoyable story of Helene (Nemesis) Zeus and Hera's daughter

Enjoyable story of Helene (Nemesis) Zeus and Hera's daughter sent to earth to as a punishment to mete out vengeance/justice. After hundreds of years on earth she now an FBI agent recently transferred to New York and partnered up with Special Agent Miguel Sanchez a human. They are tasked with taking over the case of a serial killer the press has named "The Butcher of Broadway". Instantly the sparks fly between them. They know they can't act on the attraction but can they keep their hand off each other? working closely together to find the killer before he's strikes again. Helene is beautiful, strong and very narrow minded on crime to the point of being a vigilante. Miguel guilt ridden from a past shoot out where an innocent died. He is all that is good and only out for justice.

This story has the interesting concept of a Goddess (Nemesis) desiring to be placed on Earth to mete out justice (of course her reasons for wanting to leave Olympus are heart-rendering). In the guise of FBI agent Helene Alexander she is a edgy, belligerent and cold-hearted independent woman who is partnered with Miguel Sanchez, an FBI agent wrestling with demons of his own, yet with an unstinting sense of honor and compassion to those he interacts with that puts him at odds with Helene when they are partnered to find "The Butcher of Broadway". And butt heads they do! However the magnetism between Helene and Miguel draws the audience into a story with the perfect combination of suspense and romance. Miguel with his guilt and Helene with her one sided view of justice are a great couple! Their totally combustible love making make the book sizzle! I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the rest. Caridad Pinero never fails to please!

Nemesis, the Goddess of Vengeance, comes to earth to escape her

Nemesis, the Goddess of Vengeance, comes to earth to escape her abusive father, Zeus. Now as Helene Alexander, an FBI agent in New York City, she works to find evil and obtain justice for their victims. This pledge drives her. She will not fail. She's working in a new city and with a new partner, Miguel Sanchez, and they have a new case. They need to find a vicious serial killer, the Broadway Butcher. He is terrorizing the city and she is determined to use her powers to end his reign of evil. Miguel is a dedicated agent who has seen to much and is trying to cope with his pain. After a rocky start, these two learn to rely on each other. This leads to an intense physical relationship and finally to love. What will happen once the case is over? Caridad Pineiro has written another thrilling paranormal novel in The Reborn Vampire series. I loved Helene. She is a strong character who has learned from her violent past and is finally willing to take a chance on love. Miguel is her perfect match. He is honorable, strong, dedicated and very loving. The action is non-stop and the ending will leave you breathless. What a wild ride! Great characters and superior suspense.

I have always enjoyed Caridad Pineiro's books but this was not my favorite. I would not suggest this book as a stand alone by any means. I did enjoy this book don't get me wrong, I was just lost every time a new character was introduced. It seems as though you should already know several of the characters mentioned. I see the other books in The Reborn Vampire Series in my future. As far as the main characters go I like that Helene has been through her own personal horrors and isn't portrayed as one of the happy go lucky goddesses like most Greek mythology characters in romance books. (There is a reason you can find an actual definition for Greek Tragedy after all.) As for Miguel, Helene is just what he needs to kick him out of the survivors guilt he is living with. Together Miguel and Helene are able to help each other grow and overcome their demons.

What do you get when a goddess tasked with administering justice

What do you get when a goddess tasked with administering justice and a sexy, by-the-book FBI Agent team up? Throw in some daddy issues, a serial killer, and some unresolved guilt, and you have a fast-paced read with romance, suspense, and action.

FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander (aka Nemesis, Zeus's daughter) is a goddess whose sole mission is to see that justice is served or her days as a goddess will end. She has just transferred in to the New York Field Office where she is partnered with Special Agent Miguel Sanchez and they have been assigned to the office's hottest case - a serial killer called "The Broadway Butcher." As Helene and Miguel search for clues to stop the serial killer, they must also deal with a mutual attraction that has the potential to be more than just lust for both of them. The only problem is that Helene's take no prisoners approach to justice is something that Miguel doesn't subscribe to. As the clues begin to add up and the case gets a major break, Helene is faced with a major decision - ensure justice is served or save the man she loves.

Helene was such a fun character to watch evolve over the course of the book. She has been administering justice for so long and refuses to let emotion cloud her judgment, but when she experiences an instant connection to Miguel she is forced to recognize and deal with those emotions. Miguel was everything you want in a partner - honest, strong, honorable, and sexy as hell. He is struggling with his own demons from his past which he must put to rest in order to be truly effective as an agent. His sense of honor and by-the-book nature put him at odds with Helene, who he feels has crossed the line from administering justice to exacting vengeance. This conflict causes a major issue in their relationship which ultimately leads to events which cause Helene to reevaluate who she is and what is most important to her.

Caridad Piñeiro has built an interesting world that contains immortals, vampires and who knows what other creatures. She barely scratched the surface of this world in this book, and I look forward to reading the next installment in the Reborn series to find out more...Thanks for another great read!

This book adds a new twist to the calling series. The characters were well defined.  The mystery was well thought out and had you turning pages to see how they would catch the bad guy. I liked the fact that even though she was a godess, she tried to work within the rules of the humans. I was not disappoint and enjoyed the book. Looking forward to the next one.

    Rating:  4 1/2 stars

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.

Caridad includes a bad guy and shows her readers his personality and why he’s a good choice for this book.  Our author also gives her readers their paranormal fix – like reading a Sci Fi Criminal Minds.  She was also smart in that we get to see some of Helene’s parents.  She could have let them overtake the story – since it lends itself to the mythology of the story.  But this is more than just about Helene so we get just enough to know what they’re like.

As I’m reading, I look down and couldn’t believe the page number – then I realize the story is nearing its conclusion.  And I don’t want it to be over.  The story is a whodunit that’s keeping me on the edge of my seat almost to the very end.  The bad thing about reading on your lunch hour – instead of saying “one more bite”, you’ll be saying “one more page”.  Then in the blink of an eye, the author puts in a scene that will really grab your attention and it leaves you with no choice but to read carefully so you don’t miss anything.

Caridad shows her readers that love can overcome a lot of obstacles if you are willing to make some sacrifices.  Isn’t your happiness worth it?  What would you give up to find total happiness?  The good news is that this is part of a series so the second book, titled To Love or Serve, comes out on October 28.

I thought it was a good book. A little slow of a read for me, but all in all good. I was really pleased with the mythological aspects of the story. It was a nice change to have a back story based on Zeus and Mount Olympus.

There was not enough suspence for me. I wanted more danger in regards to Helene and Miguel. The only danger came at the conclusion of the story and finished just as quickly as it came. The lead up to the discovery of the Butcher took most of the book, but the actual end to the case and the decision of what Helene will do about her relationship with Miguel happens almost instantly.

I enjoyed the love story portion of the book. It was a good play on black and white vs. grey mentality and growing beyond your initial beliefs and opinions.

All in all it was a good read, but I would have liked more danger, suspense and romance to the climax of the story.

For Love or Vengeance by Caridad Pineiro, FBI Special Agent Hele

For Love or Vengeance by Caridad Pineiro, FBI Special Agent Helene is actually the goddess Nemesis. She is on earth with one mission - to exact justice. Helene is happy to do this - especially if it means she can escape the abuse of her father Zeus, god of Olympus. Failure is not an option for Helene - if she fails, her time on earth as a goddess will come to an end.

When Helene is reassigned to a different office and city of the FBI, her reputation precedes her. For Helene, things are black and white and serving justice is the only option. She is seen as cold and calculating, with no hesitation to take down a perpetrator. She is also gorgeous and smart, and despite her immortality, she hides a lot of hurt on the inside. Helene is partnered with Miguel, who is also a reassigned FBI agent. Miguel has had his share of struggles, and he is definitely all mortal! As soon as he sees Helene he is fascinated and drawn to her...but once they are partnered he convinces himself he can maintain a strictly professional relationship with her. That will prove to be a very difficult thing to do when they're together for hours at a time for days on end as they hunt for a serial killer...hoping to catch him before anyone else is killed.

Helene is just as attracted to Miguel...even though she does not have intimate relationships with humans! What starts out as a release for her soon could turn into much more if she's not careful. She's starting to feel things she's never felt as a goddess before, things she doesn't think she should be feeling for someone who she can't be with. As awed by Helene as he is, Miguel does notice some oddities about Helene, her social skills are lacking and her drive for 'justice' is almost frightening. He is wary of working with Helene, especially when it starts looking like she's more out for vengeance than justice. But the passion between them cannot be denied...nor should it! With both of them fighting their growing feelings and seeing life through such different eyes, can they stay focused on the case and catch a killer before it's too late? Can they accept the differences between them?

Will Miguel and Helene be able to have any kind of relationship? How does one tell a lover that you really are a goddess? Most importantly, will justice be served or will Helene's time as a goddess on earth end?

For Love or Vengeance takes us on quite a romantic journey! I really liked the interactions between Miguel and Helene...they were so different but worked so well together. It was really fun to watch Helene try to become more thoughtful of others...more 'human' like. There is something about Miguel that really makes her want to be that way. The way they struggled with the inevitable and then finally came together was so realistic of a lot of couples! I was really intrigued to keep reading, wondering where Caridad would go with a seemingly impossible relationship. Because Helene had such a black and white out look on life, she really does help Miguel put a lot of things in perspective too. Despite their differences, they bring out a lot of good in each other and really make the other think about things. I really enjoyed both of these characters!

There were a few secondary characters I'd love to read more about who added just the right amount of flavor to For Love or Vengeance and had you wondering what was up with them! I'm hoping to see more of them in the future books of this series (which I will definitely be reading!)

I loved everything about For Love or Vengeance! I really enjoy a bit of paranormal in romance, and Caridad gives us a perfect blend of both! I really liked the mix of mythology in the modern world. I haven't done much reading about gods and goddesses, so this was a wonderful new adventure for me! This is the first book I've read by Caridad, and it definitely won't be the last! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance, paranormal and suspense all woven together in a riveting book!
