Overview

More than a few lovers of '70s and '80s rock have claimed that much of the fun went out of rock music in the early '90s, observing that a great deal of today's post-Nevermind alternative rock is extremely serious-minded and introspective. Of course, there are countless exceptions to that generalization; no one can accuse No Doubt, Garbage, Powder (a great band from Los Angeles), or Veruca Salt of not being fun. Furthermore, there's no law stating that rock music always has to push the party button -- if Charlie Parker and bebop was when jazz lost much of its sexy frivolity, perhaps rock took an inevitably comparable turn with the grunge/Nirvana/Pearl Jam upheaval of the early '90s. Nonetheless, there's still some room for glamorous, hedonistic, escapist pleasure in the rock world -- and Kill Hannah certainly brings a healthy dose of glam to alternative pop
ock on For Never & Ever, which is their first album for Atlantic after recording independently in the past. This 2003 release is simultaneously cute and dark, and one track that brilliantly epitomizes Kill Hannah's blend of frivolity and subversion is "Kennedy." The tune doesn't describe Ted Kennedy's family to make a political statement; rather, Kill Hannah describes the Kennedys as glamorous, if tragic, jet setters and uses them to echo (in an ironic, tongue-in-cheek fashion) rock's live fast/die young clichés. "Kennedy" is among the CD's many examples of delightfully trashy, decadent fun, which is what Kill Hannah does so well -- and they do it with an attractive sound that could be described as a blend of Garbage, the Smashing Pumpkins, Republica, and My Bloody Valentine. Anyone who complains that rock isn't as much fun as it once was needs to pay close attention to For Never & Ever, which paints a consistently exciting picture of the Chicago-based alterna-rockers.

Kill Hannah's major-label debut, For Never and Ever, is unlike anything else being played nowadays. New fans will love the poppy, upbeat songs, and most older fans would surely agree that the revamped songs are awesome. From their popular energetic single, "Kennedy," to slower, more romantic songs like "Raining All the Time," the album is wonderfully diverse. Every tune is powerful and touching, and there are no filler songs. Their sound is pop-rock with tinges of Cure and Bowie-influenced 80s glam. Kill Hannah overlaps cool synthesized noises with rocking guitars, creating their own signature sound. These guys are the best thing to come out of Chicago since The Smashing Pumpkins! Singer Mat Devine has a sexy, unique voice that feels every note he sings and carries the listener right along. "Race the Dream" and "Is Anyone Here Alive?" are two of my favorites. The songs seem like they would appeal most to teenagers and young adults. Put this CD on in your car when you're speeding along an empty road at 3 am with your friends and you'll know exactly what I mean. This is a totally awesome CD -- listening to it will make you feel alive!

I went to their concert before I bought their CD. I came home that night and put it in the CD player and it hasn't left that spot since. I have listened to is OVER and OVER. When I went out last night with my friend Miles, I put the CD into his CD player the second I got in the car. The music, the lyrics, the vocals are so amzing. I dancing around my room listening to it. I really like this CD and I'm buying ever Kill Hannah CD ever.

Kill Hannah is an awesome band! They seem like Bowie, T. Rex, Iggy Pop and the Beatles all rolled up in one band. Their new album is so addictive that you if you stop listening to it, you'll have the songs stuck in your head all day long! BUY THE CD!!!!

I'd like to start this off by saying that if you haven't already bought this cd then you're highly missing out. I've known about Kill Hannah long before 'for never and ever', and what most attracted me to them is the fact that they didn't sound like any other band out there. And this is certainly shown in their most "polished" album yet. I remember coming across an interview with the lead singer Mat Devine in which he said... "I'm always chasing inspiration. The best music comes to me when I'm enjoying life, and the best lyrics come to me when I want to die" You feel the emotion put into each song on this cd...spreading from topics such as anyone who hasn't quite fit in with society represented in "Unwanted", to a realistic love song, shown in "10 More Minutes"...and what actually most intrigues me about this album is that when the lyrics cease, and you are left with the guitar, bass lines, and drums, you feel just as much emotion and energy for those brief moments as you would with them. They are by far one of the most talented bands out there....BUY THIS ALBUM!!:-)

Kill Hannah's insanely anticipated CD has dropped and all of their fans have had more then enough time to delve into the passion-filled lyrics and hooks. This is Kill Hannah's first album released on a hardcore major record label. The album kicks off with a declarative roar of "They can't save us now". This is perhaps one of the best recorded versions of it. This version tries to capture the energy of it's live performance. "Kennedy" delivers the same kind of sexy fervor that it delivers on it's radio versions. "New Heart from Xmas" is contemplative and poetic but manages to still rock it's listeners out completely. This song is one of the most beautiful songs on the album. It combines melodic rhythm, with poetic sadness, and manages to invoke rock n roll. This album's version of "No one dreams anyway" seems a little too refined and sharpened. It lacks the certain cinematic and ambiant element that it's live performances have executed and that has been included in previous albums. Although that song is only my second favorite to "Agent Orange Skies", I don't think it's clarified and bufffed version on this album give justice to it's actual beauty. By and by, this album captures songs that have been released and performed throughout their short ten years of existence. Although Kill Hannah tries to encompus all of it's decade long stylings and elements onto the first record, the tracks seem a little clumsily placed and don't seem to relate to each other. The record seems a little like a greatest hits compiliation, but that's just because at KH's point in their career, they ALREADY have enough material to do so. This is KH's attempt to display the range in their music, and although KH's fans will appreciate it, I'm afraid it may disorient fans to be. Kill Hannah always delivers an undeniable sound of cruicfied meloncholy and art in their music and will continue to do so forever. Hopefully major record recognition won't manage to destroy the cinematic and organic feel of their music inspired by 80's new wave, personal angst and explosive live performances.

As talented as they are attractive, Kill Hannah has proved time and time again that they are ready to make it "big". With a unique sound and look, these boys have what it takes! Mat Devine's voice is soothing as well as sexy, and with Jon Radtke backing him up, along with the rest of the band on instruments, there's no stopping them! "For Never and Ever" is definately a favourite to any who may purchase it, so go out and buy your copy today! It makes for a terrific gift, too!

Kill Hannah is a band that has been struggling for so long and now they are finally being heard. The sound of Kill Hannah's enhanced cd "For Never and Ever", is rare and unique, in a very good way. This CD includes their hit track "Kennedy", played on radio stations. The rest of their album is just as great. The album includes some of their older songs too. They could be compared to Garbage,Radiohead or The Cure. Every instrument of this band is awesome, the vocals, guitars, bass and drums. The lyrics are amazing in this album, that are written by Mat Devine.Mat Devine's voice is so intense and amazing when he sings. I am a huge fan because not a lot of bands have their unique and alternative/rock sound.

Kill Hannah's first release with record label Atlantic can best be sumed up as 'Kill Hannah with an amazing twist'. Songs like 'kennedy' and 'ten more minutes with you' are just as good as previously played by the Chicago based band live, however, the CD offers a slightly different sound than before. The guitar sounds a little more prominate then in previous recordings and the bass line is a little more defined. Lead vocals are also crisper than any other recording making lead singer Mat Devine not sound 'like a girl' but like a sexy rock god. The CD does have a mix of older and newer stuff, along with rock out tunes and some 'rock-ballads'. Overall 'For Never and Ever' is worth the money escpecially for an up-and-coming rock band.

= Smashing Debut Reviewer: Ben Fishel from Peoria, IL Kill Hannah have once again proved that they have what it takes to save the world from current rock radio with their most recent, and first major label, release "For Never And Ever". From the opening to close this c.d. shows the rest of the world what Chicago has know for nearly a decade. "For Never And Ever" combines elements of 70's and 80's glam and goth such as David Bowie and The Cure with a little Seattle distortion on the side but they create a sound all of their own. This disc appeals to any person who appriecates origianl music from the "hardest working band in Chicago". Lead singer Mat Devine's lyrics are spoken from his heart with such passion that they reach out and grab your own. Coupled with the solid rythym section that is Greg Corner(bass) and Garrett Hammond and blistering guitars from Jonathan Radtke and Daniel Wiese Kill Hannah has proven with "For Never and Ever" that they are the butterfly flapping across the ocean. Kill Hannah are creating waves of change
