"You're cheating." Bella shook her head wryly as Myrtle laid down her second straight flush of their weekly poker night. "I haven't figured out how yet, but I know you're doing it. Bunch of scam artists." She softened the accusation with a teasing smile, but before Myrtle, Edna or Alice could answer, chaos erupted in the hallway just outside the nursing home's community room.

Two firefighters hurried by, followed by paramedics pushing a stretcher, and the room fell silent. That didn't bode well, and Bella's heart twisted for the three sitting at the table. They'd each lived at Roseville Manor about six years, and they were close with all the residents.

Caroline Reeves, her friend and an ER nurse who also volunteered there, stuck her head in the door and gave a thumbs-up. "Everyone's okay. The director said they're testing emergency response times."

Sighs of relief rippled across the room, and everyone began talking at once.

Relieved herself, Bella looked at her favorite senior threesome and grinned. She and Alice sat on one side of the table, and Myrtle and Edna sat on the opposite side. Bella tapped her cards on the table. "Wasting playing time, ladies. Are you in?" She tossed some pennies into the bowl in the center of the table. "The bet is five, and I'm telling you, this is my hand."

She said it, but she knew it wasn't true. She was losing, and she always lost. Maybe because the wild three were in their nineties, and they'd had more time playing poker than she'd been alive. Or maybe they really did cheat. She didn't care. She loved them, and just enjoyed spending time with them.

Myrtle snorted. "Humph. We'll see about that." She tossed her five pennies into the bowl.

"You should know better than that, dear. You're toast." Alice's sweet tone was completely at odds with her words. She dropped her bet in the pot and anted up.

Bella laughed, waiting to see what would come out of Edna's mouth. Their usual banter often had her laughing so hard her stomach hurt. But right now, the woman was quiet, her eyes comically wide as she looked across the table between Bella and Alice.

"Hello, ladies."

Bella jerked at the sound of the deep, masculine voice, and nearly dropped her cards. There was a hint of roughness to it, enough to send shivers down her spine. To cover her reaction, she turned and looked up. Her heart skipped a long beat. Standing behind them, in a firefighter uniform and holding paramedic gear, was the sexiest, hottest guy she'd ever laid eyes on. Super hot. Heart-attack hot. Five-alarm-fire hot.

His Italian heritage was stamped on every delectable inch of his six-foot-tall muscular body. His dark hair was wavy and thick, and his eyes were the color of dark chocolate, her favorite indulgence. If he'd been a piece of candy, she'd have gobbled him right up. Instead, she picked up her bottle of water and took a sip, trying to quench her sudden thirst.

"I'm Marcus Aiello. What's the game?" He cast a glance around the table, smiling at each woman as if she were the only one in his sight.

Ninety-three-year-old Myrtle looked him up and down as if she was undressing him in her imagination. "Poker. We play every Wednesday. Want to join us?"

"It depends," Marcus said with a wink and a devilish grin, not at all taken aback by Myrtle's obvious once-over. "Is it strip poker?"

I received the e-galley of FORBIDDEN DESIRES from NetGalley for an honest review.

This is a unique series in my opinion. The first book FORBIDDEN FANTASIES was great. What made that book different is that the couple is married and rekindling the fire that seemed to have lessened. FORBIDDEN DESIRES is different in it's own way. So many of the BDSM books I've read have defined Doms/Dommes and or subs. Occasionally the Dom/Domme will be a switch, but that's it. In FORBIDDEN DESIRES both Bella and Marcus switch. The need for dominance and submission runs through both of them. Watching the interaction between these two was entertaining and the struggle they both shared was gut-wrenching at times. More than once I wanted to shake some sense into both of them. But the end was very gratifying.
As far as BDSM, this book is light on the intensity. Which was fine with me. Neither Bella nor Marcus want full-time dominance or submission, but they are learning not to deny what they want in the bedroom.

Marcus is an Italian firefighter -- ummm can we say HOT. Because of the internal struggle he's dealing with, we get the chance to see Marcus vulnerable more often than usual. Trust me, he's still very much an alpha male, but it was a good change of pace to see the softer side a little more often. I admit, I would have liked to have seen more about his family, but it is a short book and I know you can't have everything.

Bella is an interesting mix of independence and insecurity. I understood why she was the way she was, and I rather enjoyed her character. She seemed more real than some female characters I've read lately. And her relationship with the ladies from the nursing home...now that was worth reading!

Speaking of those ladies, they provided just the right about of humor to balance this book out. If you read this book for no other reason (and there are plenty of reasons to read it) then read it for Myrtle, Edna, and Alice. They reminded me of my Great Grandmother so much.

This is a short book, but it's filled with goodness. I absolutely love the Bondage and Breakfast series and I hope there are more to come. Oh...and I'd like to find a B&B like this one. :)

    B+ rating...

    My Review:
It was no secret that I loved book #1 in this series, Forbidden Fantasies. One of the reasons that I loved it so much was because the hero and heroine weren't your typical erotica characters, they'd been married for fifteen years. While no where close to the same story line set-up, this book IS similar in the fact that the hero and heroine aren't typical.

Marcus is a big alpha paramedic/firefighter. He's your typical alpha male...big, brawny, Italian, and gorgeous. BUT he has a secret submission fantasy. He wants to be the person that submits, but this doesn't fit the idea of who he is, so he's never gone after that fantasy.

Bella has a desire to dominate, but has been abused mentally by playing D/s games with a past lover. As a result, she's a bit gun shy about playing with her fantasies again. She's atypical as a heroine in the fact that she's a curvy girl (which Marcus absolutely LOVES).

Neither one of them are really ready to put their fantasies out there, but that doesn't change their draw to each other or their natural inclinations which slowly start to appear. They begin to realize that maybe they've finally met the right person to fulfill a little bit of mutual fantasy time.

I liked this novella simply because the characters are so real. They have doubts and inhibitions that keep them from acting in a way that you, as the reader, can see would be so good for them. They are the perfect match for each other, but when you first meet a person, it's hard to be upfront about secret desires which might bring ridicule. That's what everyone fears, isn't it? It's really well-done, while at the same time staying really HOT! Another winner from Jodie Griffin!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
