Overview

Dragon Council Proclamation:

In order to remain undetected by mundane humans on Earth, The Dragon High Council has decided peace between the Sídhí races is critical. Therefore, all Sídhí Valleys will participate in a summer camp hosted by Dragon Valley. It is believed the unique blending of races within the summer camp will achieve the first step toward peace.

Participants shall include the eldest two teenage children (or direct descendants) of each council member.

Participation in the Peace Camp is not optional. If any Sídhí Valley refuses to participate, all known gateways within that valley will be shut down immediately.

A copy of this proclamation has been dispatched to the governmental bodies of all known valleys.

Is Jared an answer to prayer or her worst nightmare?

Seventeen-year-old, Katie McQuillen is a halfling (vampire/elf mix) in a world where halflings are not acceptable members of polite society. Unfortunately, her grandpa is chairman of the Vampire High Council and she is forced into attending a summer camp meant to create peace between the Sídhí races.

She is in the middle of Sídhí puberty – going from scrawny to beach bunny in less than three weeks – when she and her twin brother arrive at camp.

Camp starts off with a bang when vampire hottie, Jared Andrews, becomes one of her new seven cabinmates, especially when he can't keep his eyes off her. But is he interested in her, her family's money, or her blood?

She might actually enjoy summer camp, if she can stop finding dead bodies and if people stop trying to kill her.

“I think my growth spurt might be sooner than next week. I’d guess a couple of days max.” Her clothes were loose, but they irritated her skin. Every time she moved, she felt the brush of her shorts and soft cotton halter-top slide against her sensitive skin. Her skin had started tingling yesterday afternoon. She sighed in resignation, being tender was normal a few days before she started the final growth spurt.
“Honestly,” Katie said. “I can’t wait. I’m so sick of wearing boys slim cut jeans. To think, I’ll actually have…”
“La! La! La! La!” He loudly bellowed with a sick look on his face and fingers stuck in his ears.
“I was just going to say hips,” she said, planting her hands on her hips. She grinned at his pained expression.
He gave a long-suffering sigh and removed his fingers.
She couldn’t resist the urge to tease him. “Oh, and I’ll finally have boobs.”
Her giggles turned to laughter as his mortified expression turned beet red. He tried to say something, but only a gurgle came out, while the tips of his pointed ears turned rosy red.
The words barely left her mouth, when she felt someone watching her. She turned and found herself looking into a set of piercing blue eyes. She skimmed his face and then took in the whole deal: deep blue eyes, silky black hair, tall, muscled, and gorgeous. Definitely, the most gorgeous guy she’d ever seen. She honestly didn’t have the words to describe what he looked like.
How could Katie think of words, when he made all her brain functions cease to exist? For just a second, she forgot where she was and even how to breathe. Her body went from laughter to a hot flush, even the tips of her fingers and toes tingled with sparks of awareness.
Wow, talk about making a great first impression.
He casually leaned against the door frame, watching her as she gave him the once over. He was nearly as tall as Mitch. And she thought her brother looked like a pro athlete. This guy put her twin to shame. He looked a bit stunned as he stared back at her. She briefly wondered if she wasn’t the only one having trouble breathing.
Then it registered. Her heart stuttered to a complete stop; her eyes widened and she stared at him in mounting alarm.
He was a vampire. A full blooded vampire!
His stunned look changed to shock. His eyes slightly narrowed and his gaze flickered across her face, taking in her small pointed ears as they peeked past her thick hair. She groaned and felt her face and ears fill with blood, turning her light golden tan into a deep red blush.
She was humiliated. He must’ve heard them talking about her current lack of feminine curves. She wanted to crawl in a dark, deep hole and hide.
His eyes settled on hers, she finally remembered to breathe. Sucking in a ragged gasp of air, she vaguely realized, breathing didn’t come easy.

Jared stood frozen in the doorway; this could not be happening. He was only seventeen. Yet, it was happening. He couldn’t deny it, not that he ever would

Jennie Book Review Blog
We not only see vampires, but elves and dragons as well. The lore behind this story is quite amazing. Sídhí blood has a crystal in it. This crystal sings when fated people meet. This leads to their LifeMate. The LifeMate is that person who will always have a bond with them—their lover. I really liked this because I’m a total sucker for stories about destined love. The way the LifeMates bonded was really beautiful. I just really loved the idea of their blood singing.
Courtney Book Review Blog
Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire has fun characters, an imaginative plot, and a setting that comes alive. The love story is sweet, sentimental, and even a little chaste at times, which I thought made it even better. The suspense in the book is well written, and kept me on my toes. Every time I thought I'd figured something out, a twist came in and changed the game. I definitely hope to read a sequel!

    Not to shabby

This was a fun and original read. Of course the plot was not complex. The characters were not as deep as I would have liked but on the whole it was worth it.

    Great story!

Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire is one of those books that sticks with you far after the last page is read. It's intricate, detailed, and a well mapped out story that I'm so glad is one of more to come. For fans of the paranormal romance genre, or fans of young adult books in general, this book is pretty awesome.

In Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire, Jodie B. Cooper delivers a well developed and excellent story of love, suspense, action, and plenty of hilarious moments that will leave any reader grinning from ear to ear. It's the perfect combination of laugh out loud incidents and grind your teeth drama and mystery that also includes everything in between.

The characters are very human, even though they're not, easy to relate to for anyone because there are so many different personalities. I loved Sarah's character, bad ass outcast and exile (maybe that says something about me). The girl is a mystery, and it was interesting to see how the story unfolded. It's one of those books that keeps you guessing, and then you think you've finally figured it out, and something else happens that causes you to doubt previous predictions. And, I loved that about it, kept me on my toes. So much happens in this one book that there's never a dull moment.

I will say that first and foremost this book is a love story. Within all of it's paranormal elements: vampires, elves, shape shifters, and so much more, lies a very basic and beautiful almost Romeo and Juliet inspired story of forbidden love. At times the lines were cheesy and blush worthy, but overall it came across as sincere. I enjoyed the lifeMate aspect of the book, which is explained in the glossary at the back as: "two people drawn together by the synth crystal in their blood, who fall in love and bond,". It's an interesting spin on soul mates with an even deeper connection.

I can't wait to read more about this interesting world and delve deeper into the stories of these characters. Everyone is forcefully brought together with all of their differences and it's sometimes emotionally draining to keep up with all of them. A bunch of teenagers thrown into one camp together dragging all of their baggage around is quite a bit to deal with. Then add in suspicion, some jealousy, and discrimination and you've got yourself a party in Dragon Valley, kind of, I will say they do try and make the best of it.

I am a fan and cannot wait to check out some more of Jodie's work. She's an incredibly talented author who knows exactly how to connect with her readers. In addition to the glossary at the end of the story is also a map of the camp grounds, which I found to be a pretty neat feature.

    Great, original vampire story!

No matter how many books I read about them, vampires never get old for me. The good thing about this book though, is that there are more paranormal creatures than just vampires. There are elves, dragons, and even big foot to keep the story interesting. I really liked how all of the teens had to go to a camp together, even though the elves and the vampires didn't get along. The world and culture in Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire was so fun to read about, especially the whole lifemate aspect. I really wish that I were Katie and one morning could wake up tall, beautiful, and curvy just because puberty ended. Not to mention have an insanely hot vampire obsessed with me. Katie and Jared's whole relationship was really fun to watch develop and grow as they try to save the valleys. Sometimes the book got confusing at parts, but I think that's because I was reading too fast and missed some details. You definitely need to take your time on this book to catch all of the characters and whole gist of the world they live in. Other than that part, I loved all of the characters and the storyline of this book. I wish I could have followed Nick and Sarah's story more instead of their little tidbits every now and then, but seeing as the book was mainly about Katie and Jared, I guess that was okay. The book was kind of left unfinished, but I guess that's because there are supposed to be many more in this series. I will definitely be checking back with these vampires and elves to see what happens next!

HIGHLY Recommended!! - I loved it!

It was a fun read and I laughed out loud several times. I loved the pine cone!! Funny, funny! Great chemistry between Katie & Jared. It built slow and had tension. Jodie did a good job in creating believable characters. I loved the occasional sarcastic remarks! I nearly didn't buy the book, because she's a first time writer, the book was a big surprise. I went into reading it with the hope I could get through the slow parts, but it didn't have any! She created a great world that put a unique twist on vampires, elves, dragons, & a cool monster (but I don't want to tell too much). She pulled me into the book nearly instantly and really developed all the characters, not only Katie & Jared. The story builds around Katie & Jared, while still developing the other characters and a couple of underlying story lines. It had a really good ending. One story line ended with a great ending, but the other story line (the one she built the series around) left it wide open for Nick's book. I think Nick will be the next in the series, but I really want Emily to find her mate! She was so lovable. I can't wait for the next one! I bought Jodie's other book (short story, Sarah's little sister). It was really good (I laughed & cried), but I loved this one! I recommend it for teens or adults. It had tension and funny parts. I talked my older sister (24) into reading it and she said she loved it!
