More About This Book

Overview

Lawrence Blum describes the sources of danger, injuries, and victory to police officers in a down-to-earth, readable style. Blum’s main point is that there are missing “ingredients” in the training and socialization of police officers. In his book, these ingredients include techniques and tools to condition the officer’s decision-making and concentration during conditions of emergency; internal controls necessary to maintain the will to survive; and aids that will prevent officers being defeated by any threat. Blum offers tools to help police officers cope with unanticipated or rapidly changing encounters.

A Must-Read for anyone in or thinking of getting in the field of law enforcement

Ask most any cop around-There are dangers seen and unseen in our field and not all of them are people. I've been shot at, stabbed at, hit, spit at,exposed to meth labs, cooties you've never heard of, suspended, promoted, demoted and have seen good friends die during my career. This book helped me get through some of the most confusing, traumatic and stressful times of my 13 years as a cop. Please read this book or give it to someone you love that's in the field or thinking of going in the field or read it yourself to understand us a little better. Dr. Blum and his staff are some of the very, very few specialists that actually understand the dynamics, stressors and triggers of all the bad stuff that comes from doing this job.

    Life Saver For Any Cop

Force Under Pressure How Cops Live and Why They Die is an easy read for those of us who are not in law enforcement or in the psychological sciences. Dr Blum has a gift for bringing us into his world and allowing us to experience the traumas and tragedies our police face willingly and the toll it takes on them psychologically and physiologically. Individual police experiences and its aftermath are met with constructive treatments such as mental conditioning and stress management resources. This book is not meant for the lay person but I can use many of the techniques discussed in stressful areas of my own life. I have given copies of this book to police officers I know and hope they pass it on to help save lives.
