Beauty and the Beast meets James Bond

How do I sum up this delightful novel? OK, here's the Hollywood pitch: think 'Beauty and the Beast' meets James Bond, only funnier, and with aliens. Meet Tarrant-Arragon, heir-apparent to the interplanetary Tigron Empire. His 'Great Djinn' royal family is on the verge of alien extinction, and the poor seven-foot-tall 'beast' is hard-pressed to find a suitable mate. Enter Djinni-vera. She's half-Djinn and half-human, hidden on Earth by her father, the Saurian Dragon and mortal enemy of the Emperor, to protect her from the 'bad' side of the family. Thus the romance begins. It's a timeless 'beast meets girl' tale. Alien prince beast kidnaps his father's enemy's half-alien royal daughter. Alien prince beast must woo the lady without revealing his true identity because said half-alien princess is also a Saurian Knight, trained from birth to kill alien prince beast and overthrow his empire. Mayhem ensues. Meanwhile, the lady's clandestine fiancé is a spy within the imperial ranks and one of alien prince beast's most trusted officers. Commander Jason will stop at nothing to get his promised half-alien princess back. And the princess is one of the last royals to possess the famous psychic abilities of the ancient line, making it all the more difficult for alien prince beast to hide his identity, not to mention his emerging feelings for this feisty, head-strong captive. As our hero becomes more and more desperate either to prove himself to the princess or to trick her into marrying him, whichever he can manage first, time is running out. The Saurian Knights are plotting against him, the fiancé is closing in, his own valet is pulling for the girl, and the girl is meeting his every heavy-handed demand with the negotiating savvy of a UN ambassador. What's a seven-foot alien prince beast to do? This delightful romp has everything a romantic heart could hope for: a powerful but tender prince, a wily warrior princess, enough imperial intrigue to confuse even the CIA, and a British mercenary valet who ranks among the funniest characters ever to grace the written page. Better yet, it has a sequel...

    Super Sexy Si Fi

Rowena Cherry knows how to tell a story! I've only recently begun reading Sci-Fi and Paranormal books, and this offering has made me an absolute fan. Her characters are delightful, from Djinni [the ultimate tough but gentle heroine] to Prince Tarrant-Arragon [the arrogant alpha male with the tender heart] to the wisecracking 'earthling' advisor, Grievous...plus many more. I read this from cover to cover without a break! You will too, because this is yet another keeper for your shelf.

    what a wonderfully witty romp!

I don't care much for Sci-Fi romance but the blurb intriqued me. I am so glad I did. Cherry is so original, so fresh. Just such back and be prepared to laugh. Cannot wait for Insufficient Mating Material

    Awesome!

If you like romance and sci-fi action and adventure, this is the book for you. FORCED MATE takes a contemporary woman, highly trained in the defense arts, and pits her against the most powerful (and sexiest) man in all the universe. The passion is palbable and the plot is enthralling. Forced Mate is one of the best sci-fi romances I've read, and I'll most certainly be buying books from this author again.

    Not to be missed

FORCED MATE screams into motion and hurls ever forward, never letting up. It¿s a thrill ride mix of political machinations, mistaken identity/romantic comedy, and colliding cultures. Witnessing ¿Earth verses the Empire¿ was hilarious. Indeed, I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. However, it should be noted that FORCED MATE is far more than its lovely comedic elements. It is a fabulous political thriller whose turns, twists, and layers threw me for many a ¿loop.¿ I burned through this book in one day. FORCED MATE engages the mind, the intellect, and the heart. It is not to be missed.

Loved the humour in this sexy Sci Fi novel

I haven't read Science Fiction in years and received this book as a present. The sense of humour in this book totally appeals to me. I liked the story line and was also happy that there is a Family Tree Page provided I referred back to it often, I have problems in remembering names and this is a useful guide to follow the somewhat involved family history and plot. It sure is an action packed book and I highly recommend it, I will certainly read more of Rowena Cherry's books.

I was given this book to read. I'm glad someone recommended it. It's a sassy fun book that really caught my attention and held it. The writer is Brit, I believe, so has that quirky Brit sense of humour that is so comfortable to me. I highly recommend this book to males wanting a sexy story riddled with laughs and with a strong intelligence behind it. Looking forward to more books from this author.

    Terrific New World

Prince Tarrant-Arragon of the Royal Djinn was fuming when he overheard a taped conversation spoken by his chosen mate, amounting to what a nasty disgusting crummy lover he must be. Bad enough she made sport of his sexual prowess, of which he was extremely proud, but to state she¿d do herself bodily harm rather than ever submit to such a beast ¿ well, that was too much to bear! With so much at stake, he decided he could woo his intended and have their union consummated in a quickly calculating choreographed kidnapping and seduction. ************** Djinni Vera the last virgin female of the royal Djinn was no fool. Although drugged and kidnapped by the handsome warrior who tricked her she was not about to succumb to his lying, cheating charm ¿ no matter how smooth his moves were. Being able to mind read and aware of the secret betrothal to her childhood hero J-J, (whom she hadn¿t seen in 13 years) she would do what ever she could to keep this sex-starved captor off balance and guard her virginity. Countering her every move with one of his own Tarrant soon discovered that his future Queen, was not only going to check his king, but she was going to conquer his heart. ************** This was a very original, somewhat complex yet highly creative futuristic read that I found to be immensely entertaining. Tarrant whom Djinni nicknamed Tigger was an arrogant alpha male. Knowing Djinni could `mind-read¿ he thought to keep his true identity from her by constantly mind blocking her efforts by keeping his mind on sexual exploits. This worked very well, as Djinni being a Saurian White Knight herself did not want to end up as one of his conquests nor did she want him to discover that her father was the head of the Saurian White Knights that were trying to take his empire down! Djinni was smart, brave, and honorable in trying to stay true to her childhood betrothal. The romance was lovely, with Tarrant who in trying to trick his way into Djinni¿s heart found he¿d lost his to her. ************** While the exciting plot, romance, and back burner political maneuvering keeps you turning the pages of this lengthy novel, the abundance of secondary characters did slow my reading while I kept looking back at the convenient hierarchy chart to keep everyone in perspective. The balance of the humor, the romance, and the intrigue all came together in one very fine debut for this author. In spite the one small problem, I believe fans of sci-fi romance novels are going to love this new author and her exciting intergalactic series. ************** Marilyn Rondeau, RIO ¿ Reviewers International Organization

very original Sci-Fi tale done with a wicked wit

I just finished re-reading Forced Mate, anticipating the second in the series coming out in February. Tarrant-Arragon, is a great Djinn, the next god-Emperor of Tigron. All the virgins of the universe belong to him. Well, nothing like having such a heavy burden. The problems facing the Poor Lord Emperor is such a burden. He storms around projecting Mr. Macho, Ruler of the Universe because it's what is expected of him. However, the Djinns are getting scarce in this neck of the Universe, so 'Tigger' must find a bride quickly. The only one fitting the bill is his second cousin, who is half-Djinn, half-earthling. Tigger's lass cannot just live in a bottle, wears nifty 'I Dream of..' pink outfits, and blinks her away through all her predicaments. Nope, Djinn-Vera is a Saurian Knight, dedicated to bringing down the Tigger's tyranny at all costs. Okay, things are starting to get complicated in Djinn-Djinn land! Djinn-Vera is betrothed to Djetthro-Jason, another cousin, but she is attracted the handsome man she believes is a Saurian Knight she assumes her father sent. Tarrant cannot risk letting this prime piece of marriage material get away from him, so he abducts Djinn-Vera. Only Djinn-Vera has a stubborn case of 'crossed legs' and isn't about to go along with the mating ritual Tarrant's people expect from him. Figuring is if she knew he was Mr. Big Ruler of the Universe might make it hard to get her wedded and bedded, he sets out to capture Djinn-Vera's heart without letting her know who is literally taking her to the stars. Cherry brings her own style of humour to this challenging book that leaves the door open to many more adventures for the Djinn. It's a sexy adventure that will keep you entertained. I highly suggest ordering now because the sequel, Insufficient Mating Material, comes out February 2007. At that point, you can bet Forced Mate will be hard to get a hold of. I also recommend the novella by Cherry, Mating Net, which is a prequel to Forced Mate. So learn just how sexy chess can be!

    A Spellbinding Sci-Fi Read!!

As a huge fan of sci-fi romance, I feel the world does not have enough of these great, intricately imaginative authors. I search long and hard for books like 'Forced Mate' and I was very pleased by the second chapter! If you have an appreciation for well thought out plots, ones that dare to overstep the boundaries that exist for romances today, then take that flying leap of faith with Rowena Cherry's 'Forced Mate'. Prepare to literally steep in the intrigue, character conflict, unique world-building and blazingly hot romance. Prince Tarrant-Arragon, whose name reminds me instantly of 'tyrant' and 'arrogant', is in need of a mate. Not any mate will do though--he needs the last fertile female of his people. Djinni-vera, or Jinny a she calls herself, is that last fertile princess. Hidden on Earth for her protection, she is nonetheless ferreted out by Tarrant. Being that she is very sensitive about his reputation, Tarrant decides not to reveal his true identity. He will tame his defiant mate-to-be, but soon he wants more than just her compliance. In an adventure of the heart that takes them from Earth to the oppressive Royal Deserts and the War Star of the inferior An'Koori, Tarrant-Arragon and Djinni-vera will have to come face to face with what makes each other tick. Will what they find out about one another shape their love or tear it apart? What a spectacular read! I did not like Tarront-Arragon at first, though I found him vastly amusing. As a future emperor, he had the delusion that everything he wanted would fall at his feet in gratitude. Not so our heroine. Djinni gives our sexy hero a run for his money, and he, in turn, her. It's an interstellar chess match of wit, wooing and many surprises for the both of them. Author Cherry has penned a mind-blowing world in her new series. The attention to detail, the characters, it's all top-notch. I loved the secondary characters too, especially Grievous. Hint, hint, Ms. Cherry! Love to see more of him! Looking forward to your second in this wonderful series.

    Humorous, Witty and Delightful!

Tarrant-Arragon, a great Djinn, the next god-Emperor of Tigron, seeks a mate, specifically his half Djinn second cousin. He is intelligent, crafty and a tyrant, and encourages talk of his ruthlessness¿because it is so much easier than actually fighting. Djinn-Vera is half Djinn, half human. She is also a Saurian Knight, dedicated to bringing an end to Tarrant-Arragon¿s tyranny. Although betrothed to Djetthro-Jason, her cousin, since the age of five, Djinni is attracted to the large, handsome man¿the Saurian Knight she believes sent to her by her father. Because Djinni-Vera is one of the last female Djinn of marriageable age, and Tarrant has spent years looking for someone like her so he could wed, he abducts her from earth with plans to immediately consummate their union. Djinni does not cooperate. Never has Tarrant had a woman defy or deny him. He is enchanted by his little mate¿s stubborn refusal to accept him. Realizing her hatred for Tarrant-Arragon, and her fear of the marriage bed, Tarrant sets out to win Djinni¿s love before telling her who he is. The author has written a funny, at times hilarious and laugh-out-loud story of romance, science fiction and dysfunctional families. The family chart at the beginning of the book is a great help in keeping the characters straight in your mind as you read. I enjoyed each page, yet this isn¿t a book to be read in a day. The plot is rich and involved and the author handled all loose ends in a satisfying manner. Her `alien¿ words were odd, yet cleverly designed so as to be immediately understood. Add hilarious. The book held up all the way through and her ending was rewarding. I highly recommend Forced Mate. I look forward to Rowena Cherry¿s next book. It¿s an automatic buy for me.

A terrific beach read you won't want to put down!

Forced Mate is a highly original story with a fun twist. Aliens live on Earth, but only a few know of their presence. Djinni is a Saurian warrior knight living in present-day England. She is intent on someday killing her family's sworn enemy, the god-Emperor, Prince Tarrant-Arragon, the Tigron dictator and slayer of her people. She also plans to marry the Prince's replacement, just as soon as Tarrant-Arragon is assassinated. Unfortunately, she hasn't actually seen either the Prince or her betrothed as adults, and so a whirlwind of mistaken identity ensues. Tarrant-Arragon, for his part, knows everyone -- or, at least, thinks he does... His one goal is to find some way to trick Djinni into marrying him, and consummating the marriage, before she can kill him. And Djinni is intent on staying close to the man she calls Tigger (actually Tarrant-Arragon) so that she can get close enough to kill . . . well, Tarrant-Arragon! This book was a lot of fun. The subterfuge engaged in by all parties keeps you guessing until the very last page. The secondary characters are wonderfully drawn, and one can only hope that Ms. Cherry will continue on with more books in this same series! A terrific romp of a book! Cathy Clamp

    Terrific Intergalatic Tale

There's a wonderful new author, Rowena Cherry, who will debut her first futurisitic, FORCED MATE with Love Spell (Nov. 2004) that is out of this world! In this terrific intergalatic tale, the virile god, Prince Tarrant-Arragon, head of the Tigron Empire, is determined to have half-human, Djinni-vera, the last virgin Imperial Princess for his mate. Djinni is living in England when Tarrant-Arragon goes there to claim his bride. Instead of falling into the arrogant prince's arms, Djinni tries to escape from this domineering male since she has been betrothed to a Saurian Knight since childhood. Tarrant-Arragon is intrigued with a female who isn't immediately charmed by him so he decides to keep his identity a secret from Djinni and court her as 'Tigger' with the help of his servant, Grievous. Now if only the rut-rage doesn't overtake Tigger before he has won Djinni's love! FORCED MATE is more than a love story but an adventure into a complex new world with a unique cast of characters. Rowena Cherry is a highly imaginative, funny, sexy, fresh new voice in futuristic romance. Ms. Cherry's star is on the rise with the absolutely superb and delightful, FORCED MATE!'

    Excellent!

The Imperial Tiger Prince Tarrant-Arragon, is renowned for his sexual prowess all over the galaxy. Everyone believed him heartless and he let them continue to believe so, even though the truth of his private life was totally different. He wants nothing more than to have his bride love him. Problem is that he needs to wed Djinni-vera, the last true Djinn of breeding age, and she believes him an enemy. Thus Prince Tarrant-Arragon abducts Djinni-vera from Earth, where she had grown up, and kept his real identity secret until such time he can successfully woo her. ............................ Djinni-vera has been betrothed to Prince Djetthro-Jason 'J-J' since the age of five. Soon he would come to collect her. As she grew up, she learned to fight and became a White Knight. Her family's enemy is the horrid and cruel Prince Tarrant-Arragon. Her Knight vows and honor demands she fall on her own sword or kill the Tiger Prince should he ever come courting. However, she never expected to be abducted by the man known as 'Tigger'. She knows that she cannot trust him, yet she secretly wishes she could. ......................... ***** An excellent fantasy romance! Be warned of explicit love scenes though. If these bother you, you may wish to pass. In addition to the riveting main plot, there are also a few sub-plots continually running so readers will never become bored. The only fault, in my opinion, is that the prince knew so little about Earth culture. I would have thought he'd do more research in his planning. Since he did not, his ignorance made him seem to 'come on' too strong, and at some points seem ridiculous. Yet as a whole, this story is true bliss. I sincerely hope that the author uses Djinni-vera's father as an excuse to create a second book! *****

Romance- Humour - SAS -royalty - Outer Space

Romance - Humour - SAS - Royalty - Outer Space: all in one? - it is that combination, coupled with a wicked sense of humour, that makes this by far the most unusual, entertaining yet thought-provoking book I have read for a long time Once you get into it you will find it virtually impossible to put down, twist and turns and female wiles and logic against male arrogance will keep you amused until the very end - lets hope that Rowena's follow-up is not far away; there is a huge gap in the market for this particular type of read - which will appeal to both sexes who have a weird and wicked sense of humour Jo Thomson MCIJ Mlnst SMM

Futuristic Fulfillment, Not Your Casual-Minded Romance

Rowena Cherry¿s Forced Mate is a thrilling ride filled with detours, dead ends and juicy ¿scenic overviews¿ that will take you on a futuristic trip NOT for the simple-minded. Curves, turns and loops keep this story moving forward with intrigue and mystery that started in the lives and loves of past generations. Tarrant-Arragon may think he¿s in the drivers seat, but Djinni-vera¿s sidetracks his efforts at seduction and directs him to a place of great love, not just amazing passion. Cherry writes for the intelligent reader who must pay attention at all times or miss the subtleties that enhance the storyline until it reaches its destination of ¿The End.¿ But, there is still romance lurking around Tigron and unrequited passion and secrets that need to be unleashed. I don¿t think we¿ve seen the last of the Prices of Tigron or their destined mates, who must tame their beasts without losing their hearts or their lives to those who seek to overthrow a galactic empire of the ultimate alpha males.
