Overview

Since the first edition of Forces for Good was published in 2007the world has changed significantly. The U.S. and global economieshave essentially ground to a halt. Government cutbacks, reducedpublic support, and less money from corporations have challengednonprofits like never before.

In the original book, authors Crutchfield and McLeod Grantemployed a rigorous research methodology to determine "what makesgreat nonprofits great?" They studied twelve nonprofits that haveachieved extraordinary levels of impact—from Habitat forHumanity to the Heritage Foundation—and distilled sixcounterintuitive practices that these organizations use to changethe world. This revised and updated edition of that bestsellingbook explores how the recent economic and social upheavals haveimpacted these noteworthy organizations. In addition, Forces forGood shows how the six practices have been applied successfully tosmall, local nonprofits.

Despite the enormous changes in the economic landscape, theauthors' recent research reaffirms the viability of the originalsix practices for scaling social impact. This updated book examinesa proven framework that helps nonprofits shift from anorganizational mind-set to a relational mind-set, from a moreindustrial era model of production, where the nonprofit producesgoods and services for customers, to a networked model, where thenonprofit's mission is to catalyze social change by inspiringothers to action.

If you are a nonprofit professional, an agent for social change,a dedicated volunteer, or a concerned donor, this book will serveas a manual for becoming a force for good.
