Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Forensic Linguistics fills a major gap and will beinvaluable to those who teach courses on language and the law atboth undergraduate and postgraduate level. It is wide ranging andaccessible, with a large references section – ideal as anintroduction to the subject. I will certainly use it with my ownstudents." Malcolm Coulthard, University of Birmingham

"This book brings a wealth of knowledge to the study of languageand law. It should be of interest to a wide audience, includingsociologists and anthropologists interested in studying such thingsas power relationships among participants in the legal systemthrough close examination of linguistic behavior. The book morethan meets its stated goal, “to open a door on thefascinating and important relationship between language and the lawin its many aspects." Lawrence M. Solan, Brooklyn LawSchool

"John Gibbons' book Forensic Linguistics provides a lucidoverview of the general concepts and issues relating to linguisticcommunication in the justice system." New Zealand Studies inApplied Linguistics

"This is part of Blackwell's excellent Language inSociety series, and Gibbon's well-written and broadly engagingtextbook continues that tradition... it is already receiving praisefrom students, students who judge books not only on scholarlycontent but accessibility... Forensic Linguistics willbecome the primary text in the growing interdisciplinary field oflegal language and discourse." Discourse and Society
