Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sarah Maury Swan
Forget the TV series and learn what forensic scientists really do. They do not go around waving guns and crashing through doors, but they are crucial to solving crimes and mysteries. The mystery might be determining when a body died by what stage of growth the fly maggots are in. These scientists are called entomologists. The forensic pathologist autopsies bodies to see what caused death. She takes tissue and blood samples to check for unnatural substances or irregularities in the organs, among other things. But not all forensic scientists work on human bodies or on crimes. Forensic anthropologists work on fossils and ancient signs of life. The book is well written and full of lots of interesting facts about forensic science. The final chapter gives a brief overview of various jobs in the field of forensic science, including the amount of education needed and a salary range. So if ferreting out secrets and solving mysteries is your thing, check out these careers. Reviewer: Sarah Maury Swan
