Overview

A brand-new Tess Noncoiré Adventure from "an innovative and welcome new voice in urban fantasy" (number-one New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs).

Tess Noncoiré, successful fantasy writer and Celestial Blade Warrior, has made a deal with the Powers That Be, forfeiting her own dreams in order to save those nearest and dearest to her. Having survived this unprecedented experience, Tess, along with her imp Scrap, is determined to hunt down a demonic intruder from another dimension, the Norglein, who seems bent on ravishing young women, leaving them pregnant, and waiting for the proper time to steal their babies away for his own purposes.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Melissa Moore
Tess Noncoire, the successful fantasy writer and Celestial Blade Warrior, is at it once again, and this time her enemy is called the Norglein, something of a dark elf who has managed to enter our world from another dimension and has made his home in a Portland forest, where he attacks unwitting women, impregnates them, and then steals their babies when the hybrid creatures are born. Her first encounter with the Norglein leaves her injured, but Tess and her imp, Scrap, will stop at nothing to see the creature removed from this world, even if it means relying on two men from Tess' past—the former gargoyle, Donovan, and the love of her life, Gollum. Told from Tess's viewpoint, though Scrap occasionally gets his chance to speak up, this fantasy is campy and rather fun. With creative characterization, a deftly paced plot, and even some romance, this is a breezy novel meant for adult readers. Those who have not read the earlier books in the Tess Noncoire Adventure series (DAW) may have difficulty creating the necessary backstory to enjoy this novel on its own merits. This novel will find an audience especially with those who have their own favorite science fiction or fantasy conventions. Reviewer: Melissa Moore
