Editorial Reviews

Reading Time
The story draws on all the characteristics of the traditional fairy tale, but provides its own little modern twists ... will delight and extend the vocabulary of the young readers.
Media Monitors
Short but surprisingly satisfying read for children who are not quite ready for a lengthy, more challenging book ... Slick graphics and snappy prose; a good one for reluctant readers.

"Short but surprisingly satisfying read for children who are not quite ready for a lengthy, more challenging book . . . Slick graphics and snappy prose; a good one for reluctant readers."  —Media Monitors

"It is a wonderful read-aloud story for parents who will enjoy the jokes about the place names of Old (New) York and of course recognize the landmarks in the beautifully colored illustrations . . . Zarb's illustrations are a delight and have enormous kid appeal. And, it seems, there are more adventures planned for Belmont and Burnie."  —Aussiereviews.com

"Short but surprisingly satisfying read for children who are not quite ready for a lengthy, more challenging book . . . Slick graphics and snappy prose; a good one for reluctant readers."  —Sandy Campbell, former president, Children’s Book Council of Australia (NSW)

"Just perfect for young readers, and especially boys, this new series is filled with craziness and chaos and wonderful animation-like illustrations."  —theage.com.au

"This is a funny, madcap, and mayhem story with a good dose of old fashioned slapstick. The illustrations, although set in Old York, are modern and full of humor. Belmont and the Dragon is a great book to introduce boys to reading."  —newkidsbooksinoz.blogspot.com

School Library Journal
K-Gr 2—If young Belmont could only escape his dreary orphanage, he would live the life of a knight, taming dragons, catching witches, and saving damsels in distress. As his story unfolds, these traditional fantasy elements do come to pass in a fairly predictable way without distinguishing this modern-day fairy tale beyond the New York City setting. References to "Once Upon a Times Square," "Centaur Park," and "faster than an Old York minute" are clever, but the chuckles are more likely to come from adults than from children. Youngsters will enjoy the visual aspect of the book; the cartoon characters are rendered with plenty of humor, and there are a lot of full-page illustrations. Nonetheless, Belmont's quest lacks suspense, and both the character and his tale are easily forgotten.—Gloria Koster, West School, New Canaan, CT
