I really enjoyed this story! The world building was great, and the relationship building was too; I loved the dynamic that Devin and Lena had. Devin’s family really makes you appreciate your loved ones (at least the ones that don’t drive you mad lol), and Lena’s home life kind of breaks your heart.
I thought that the war veteran scenarios were realistic and it’s pretty disheartening to think of what people go through after fighting in a war of any kind. Watching Devin pick up the pieces was incredibly endearing.
The ending was predictable, but satisfying. It did feel kind of truncated though. I can’t wait for the next book, and it better pick up right where this one left off so we see what happens with their families and the war!
Compelling, romantic, and addictive, Forever will have you enthralled from beginning to end. I definitely recommend it to any paranormal romance fan!

In a future where humans are almost extinct, werewolves fight to retain their meager hold on their lands against the dragons who rule the skies. War is the inevitable outcome of this world. And the war’s backdrop, and the hardship to werewolf families and warriors, is painted through the eyes of a damaged fifteen-year veteran, Devin Owen. Rescued after five years in Dragon prison, he is finally home and unprepared to deal with freedom.
Lena Knox is the werewolf next door. Well, not exactly. She lives across the street. But several years younger than Devin, she’s watched him, knowing him to be her mate. Not that the Owen brother of her heart has had a chance to notice her. Until now. Lena didn’t waste the interim years on superficial flings and adventure. Providing for her aging parent’s welfare and hoping Devin will come home from the wars has taken every spare moment. Now that is about to change—she hopes.
This is a short novella, but what I liked about it was that it offers a good snap shot of the magical world. The focus understandably on Devin, what happened to him during the war, and what he struggles with upon his return. We get the pieces of the dragon war that are relevant here, not a dump of the entire circumstance. Just enough is presented to keep us wondering how this came to be.
In the development of the relationship, Lena is certain of Devin’s role as her mate, but she reacts in a mature, if heartbreaking manner, when he offers no returned assurances. She’s a strong young woman. She has waited for years for the one man who was destined for her and she’s worked her butt off in the meantime. She can make hard choices for herself and she retains her compassion and loyalty even during the hardest of times. The romance begins with a sexual spark, but friendship, mutual support, and love develop without the crutch of ‘mating lust’, which made for a great tale.
What I liked: The characters, the intrigue of what happened to bring these two people together, how strong they both are in spirit and will. I really enjoyed Devin. Who wouldn’t love a soldier who has given his all and still struggles to find a way to give more. I also rooted for Lena to find a way to heal the broken parts of Devin so they could have the joy they both deserved.
What I didn’t like: I’m realistic, a short novella isn’t going to build the whole world or lay down huge descriptions. This was a teaser intro story for a new series. And it worked. I enjoyed FOREVER, Dragon Wars enough that I’m going to wait for the next, hopefully full book, in this series. I also hope we see more of Devin and Lena.
Rebecca Royce is a new author for me and I have to say that I enjoyed this book and appreciated the opportunity to read it for review.
So final check:
Fantasy – Yes, an interesting world with plenty more to look forward to.
Great characters – Yes, Devin is an honorable warrior ready for dragon battle round two. Lena is strong enough in loyalty, bravery, and determination to match him.
Romance – Refreshingly, it was not overdone in the sex department. Just enough sensual and sexual excitement, with a nicely developed bond to make this outcome believable.

It's said that good things come in small packages and that's exactly my feelings in regards to this new novella by Rebecca Royce. Forever: The Dragon Wars is a fast-paced story with lots of action taking place. There's emotional struggles, issues of PTSD, and an unique paranormal battle raging between werewolves and dragons that's decimating the werewolf community.
Devin has returned home after years in captivity a damaged man, both physically and mentally. Years of torture have left him with scars inside and out that he's having difficulty healing. If only he were able to shift into his wolf form, then he'd not feel so broken and lost. The war has taken that ability from him though and he has no idea how to get it back. I ached for everything he'd been through. War didn't make him feel like a hero, it robbed him of his life. To see someone so strong brought so low makes you wonder if the real cost of war is worth it. His fateful meeting of neighbor Lena is just what he needs though to heal him even though he fights the attraction every step of the way. It's not until Lena's life is put in jeopardy that he realizes what she truly means to him. The man took his sweet time realizing it, but the wolf wastes no time in claiming what's his.
Lena may be young but she's an admirable heroine. She's hardworking and loyal as the rest of her family deteriorates from old age and drugs. She's known from a young age that Devin was her mate and has waited patiently for him to come home. He's not the same man she once knew, and even though he denies what she knows to be true, sets out to help him heal as any proper mate would do. Their relationship starts out as friends where he helps her fix up her home but soon morphs into more. She's tired of remaining pure and Devin is more than happy to give her what they both want in numerous steamy encounters.
Lena and Devin are a great couple despite their big age difference. She's very mature for her age as she deals with adult issues on her own. Devin needs the sunshine and unconditional loyalty she bequeaths him and it's her inner strength that feeds his and allows his wolf to return in the nick of time. The ending is a bit abrupt though no less satisfying. This is an entertaining start to what I presume to be a new series. The paranormal elements are intriguing and I look forward to digging deeper into this long fought war. Ms. Royce has once again created a satisfying story that nicely balances romance and action.

Devin Owens was a prisoner in the Dragon Wars. He is free now but can't shift into his wolf form. He is a broken man who lives on painkillers and has no drive. That soon changes when Lena Knox disturbs his rest. He soon begins to fix things around her house even while fighting his attraction to her. She claims he is her mate something she realized when she was 7 years old. Now years later she wants to claim him but he denies he is her mate. He knows she deserves better but it may take an enemy to make him see what is in front of him.
Devin at first seems a broken week person who has given up. As the story progresses he becomes stronger and begins to let go of feeling worthless. I would love to see more of him. Lena is a straight forward woman who goes after what she wants. She is a hard worker trying to keep her family going even while it is falling apart. She is so awesome she tries her best to show Devin they belong together.
This is a quick good read. I love reading about Devin and Lena. They have a great story and I kept hoping they would be together. When they are together they are a very hot pair. The only thing I didn't like about this story is it is short. I wanted more of it! Luckily it is a series and I look forward to reading more about this thrilling world. You only get glimpes into the war and I hope we get to find out more about it. A great fight scene is in this book and you really get to see the power of shifters. This is a great story for someone looking for a good paranormal romance series that leaves you wanting more!

Forever: The Dragon War is a novella length story that has everything you want in a great paranormal romance packed into a easy to read in one sitting length book.
Devin is a veteran of the Dragon Wars and has come home after being held for 5 years in a dragon prison, Lena the little girl next door is all grown up and she has been waiting for him, she knew since she was 7 years old he was her mate.
Ms. Royce has written a fantastic tale of a world where humans have been extinct for 100's of years and werewolves are now the norm. With our hero a war vet with the were equivalent of PTSD, damaged sense of smell, broken leg and unable to shift we can almost relate on a real life level with his character. Lena is in a situation where the mate she has waited for doesn't recognize the link, she has aging parents and a junky sister and brother-in-law so once again very much a character we are able to connect with. When get a whole load of sexual tension and several burning up the sheets scenes to round the story into a great erotic paranormal romance.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this story immensely. Devin is a broken man who is just trying to get by each day after the Dragon Wars.
Lena is a woman to get the man she believes in her life mate.
The journey for the two of them isn't easy, but with each giving a little they find they can't live without each other. An other world tale that keeps the reader entertained.
