Barnes & Noble - Bill Crandall
"There been tears along the way, but we've never cried alone," sing the Spice Girls on their chummy new ditty "Right Back At Ya." "The four of us have grown and our friendship never ends." Well, this time, it doesn't exactly rhyme, but you get the idea: Girl Power is back! And, despite the two-year layoff, new husbands and babies, and solo albums, the Girls are closer than ever. But, yep, they did say "four of us," because Forever is their first album since Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell hit the bricks apparently they now let her cry alone. Well, this time, it doesn't exactly rhyme, but you get the idea: Girl Power is back! And, despite the two-year layoff, new husbands and babies, and solo albums, the Girls are closer than ever. But, yep, they did say "four of us," because Forever is their first album since Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell hit the bricks apparently they now let her cry alone. Emma, Mel C., Victoria, and Mel G. may look more like the First Wives Club than the teen queens who've replaced them at the top of the charts, but they still pack some sass. And, unlike their current competition, they're no virginal vixens; "Holler," a boisterous, vocoderized dance single, strings together none-too-subtle come hither calls like "Everything you want you will find in me." And the Girls aren't afraid to flex their maternal muscles. The tender ballad "Tell Me Why" finds them looking at life through one of their own little girl's eyes: "She is so sweet and young, and her life has just begun." The Spice Girls may not last forever -- or even another album -- but there's enough Girl Power left to sustain this one.
All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The Spice Girls waited three years to deliver their third album, Forever. While they were away, a number of things changed -- things have that tendency -- but the pop scene didn't shift so drastically that it was chilly to a Spice comeback. Many pundits argued, fairly accurately, that they were the trailblazers for the resurgence of frothy, unabashed teen pop in the last two years of the 20th century. But, just like there was a decade separating the ages of the Spices and Britney Spears, there's a huge difference between the cheery, featherweight "Wannabe" and the calculated sex and shock of ."..Baby One More Time" -- ironically, the older girls made music that was lighter and more innocent. With Forever, they continue to follow that path, with a sleek, stylish attempt at maturity, but they seem lost because they just don't sound interested any more. Sure, they make all the right moves, hiring superstar producer Rodney Jerkins to helm most of the tracks, but the record is curiously self-conscious and flat. Neither the production, songs, nor performances have much life to them, with the exception of the closer, "Goodbye," which significantly was released as a Christmas single back in 1999. There's little of the giddy sense of friendship that marked their first two records, and the ballads aren't as sweetly sentimental; there's little of the charm that made the Spice Girls so irresistible. Often, Forever plays like the Girls realized that it's their final album, and they put in just enough effort to make it palatable, but not enough to make it appetizing. That's not the best way to go out, but it seems like the best the Spice Girls could do in 2000, considering that their hearts and minds were clearly on their ever-increasing solo projects.

You thought the boy bands were bad, check out the girls...

Ok, i must admit that when i was in 3rd grade, spice girls were my obsession, and they may have good voices, but the "girl power" trend is far gone and overrated. Its true girls should take pride, but singing songs about rainbows and broken hearts only lables girl power as pathetic girlyness. The spice girls were a fad, and by realeasing this CD, they've proven that they're simply a worn out trend, considering the low amount of CD's purchased, and no singles from this CD. The backstreet boys and N*sync died, and so must the Spice Girls, Get over it!

    Spice Women

In my opinion.."Forever" was actually released to prove the public wrong that the Spice Girls have splitted up. True. Well I believe that this album is also crucial to the girl's careers because it simply showed their amazing musical metamorphesis. This album is for all fans of pop and R&B. The fusion of the 2 genres is CHEMISTRY!! Checkout "Holler", "Get Down With Me", "If You Wanna Have Some Fun" and "Right Back At Ya"...and don't forget the amazing ballads such as "Let Love Lead The Way", "Oxygen" and "Time Goes By"...ENJOY

    Has girl power disappered?

Spice Girls' third album wasn't what I had waited. There was so simple tracks that was even terrible to listen. Especially "Tell me Why", "Oxygen", "Weekend Love", "Time Goes by" were so awful that I thought I was wasting my time. But there was some good tracks too: "Let Love Lead the Way", "Goodbye", "Holler", "If You Wanna Have Some Fun" and "Right Back at Ya" were good class. But none of them is girl power track, as I see it.

    Spice girls gone forever

This album is great! Too bad they are gone... It's been two years since ''FOREVER'' was released and the Spice girls haven't released a new one so I doubt they're gonna release another. Mel C's new album is due out early 2003 so go looking for it!!! As for the rest of them, good luck (except geri I hate her because she started the end of the spice girls)

    ITs hot

The girls 3rd album was tight. I always like them. And when i bought it i was amazed at how good they sung. ''Holler'' and ''goodbye'' were my faves. All of the lyrics flow. In ''Wasting My time'' i liked how sporty sung the chorus solo. She is very talented. All of the girls have realeased a solo album which are also good. All expect for Posh[no album just yet]. I was glad to hear everyone sing in each and evry song on this album. Unlike the other two whick were okay. The album us tight

Let's Change Their Name to SPICE WOMEN!

5 Stars is an understatement - these girls have done so much growing in the last two years and you can sense it in their songs - awesome lyrics and incredible vocals. If you are expecting another ''Wannabe'', go buy a Britney Spears CD because you won't find it on this album.
Personally, I cannot find one of these tracks to be favorite, I love them all! If I had to choose, ''Get Down with Me'' is my favorite dance track and it's a toss up between ''Time Goes By'' and ''Oxygen''. I can't wait till they perform these songs, it will be magical. ''Time Goes By'' will be best song to perform; imagine the four standing around a grand piano singing this touching ballad.
Every song on this album can (and hopefully will) be a single. If you think, they died, split up, or are just too old to make good music, this album will change your mind and impression of the Spice Girls. They even say they are different in ''Right Back at Ya'' - ''We're coming right back with a brand new design'' ''We had a taste of what we all can achieve, so we're coming back for more.''

Forever - the best album the Spice Girls have released to date

I bought the album because I liked ''Holler'' and the single wasn't released in the US. My first run-through the album was OK - a few stand-outs - ''Holler'', ''Right Back At Ya'', ''Get Down With Me'' and ''If you Wanna Have Some Fun''. By the third listen, I loved all the songs. Excellent arrangements, excellent ballads - ''Oxygen'' and ''Time Goes By'' are now my favorites. Excellent all around. Their fans who have not yet bought this CD are missing out on a lot. I am now a Spice Girls fan. Imagine, I previously thought they were annoying.

Before you dismiss, really give it a listen

I have to start out by saying, ''Wow!'' I have always liked the Spice Girls' music but I was not sure how a change in producers and a hiatus were going to affect them. I need not worry. They sound fantastic. They are ALL singing wonderfully, no more focusing on certain members. The vocals are lush and the music is ''booty-shaking'' groovy. I am not as happy with the ballads, but I still feel they have taken themselves to the next level.

If it's anything like ''Holler'' & ''Let Love Lead The Way''

I have had the luck of hearing five of the songs from ''Forever'', ''Holler'' & ''Let Love Lead The Way'' (Both of their new sigles, an awesome buy! Holler is the upbeat dance tune that is going to re-establish the Spice Girls in Canada & the US), ''Tell Me Why'' (A Very funky R&B/Dance Tune, that sounds slightly like TLC's ''Silly Ho'', but less computerized voices), ''Righs Back Atcha''' (A Tune directed at all their critics that said after ''Goodbye'' that was it...they are all going to break up) & ''Goodbye'' (Everyone has heard this song!). So far the album doesn't sound ''over-produced'' like ''Spice'' & ''SpiceWorld'' did. There is more ''raw'' vocals, many more harmonies (That shows that the Girls have been working on their voices over the past 2 years). Overall this album (from what I have heard) is very well done, and the Girls should enjoy some more success on both sides of the pond!
