Forgotten Realms: Elminster-The Making of a Mage (Elminster #1)

High Fantasy, low humor

There are a thousand cliche storylines out there for a high fantasy novel. Revenge against the monster who murdered your parents, trying to reclaim your rightful throne from usurpers, becoming a master wizard yourself. Anyone could spin just one of those into a story. Spinning all three into a story, and doing it in a manner that isn't cliched? That's hard, especially when you add in a nice edge of humor that leavens the drama with a few moments of hilarity.

Ed Greenwood is one of my favorite authors for a reason. He makes me laugh.

A great book

I started reading D&D books with my all time favorite author, creator of legendaru drizzt, R.A. Salvatore....he now has a rival ;)

NO!

I do not think that this is his best work..

A must read.

For anyone looking to really grasp forgotten realms or wizards even you must read the Elminster series. It is by far some of the best stories ever told of Faerun. Period. Can you expect any less from the creator of the forgotten realms? Do yourself a favor: read this and everything else by Greenwood. You'll be glad you did.

Great book for fans of the Forgotten Realms

I am glad to see some of Greenwood's books finally make it onto the ebook format. This first book in the Elminster series really shows why he is considered one of the best world building authors out there.

maybe a 3 and half

Not a bad read. Starts out good then gets boring as you go thru El's thief years. I almost put it down. When he hooks up with Mystra the book gets interesting again. I could never get over the cronie name 'Elminster'. It reminds me of bad online spellcaster characters name. The mage 'fights' remind me a little of yu-gi-oh cartoon fighting. One spell topping another. But I suppose that isn't all together bad. In fact the book half ways thru held my attention. Good enough that I wanted to buy the next one. Not a bad book has some flaws but good enough to finish, and make me want a little more.

So Many Interesting Twists and Turns

I loved every page of this book.You never knew what would happen next.There is revenge and romance,battles with magic as well as swords,and of course there is the many lessons Elminster is forced to learn on his way to the top.

The gamers Dream

Not only is this story a gripping account of how our beloved Elminster came to his powers. It also pushes the envelope for gamers as well giving a new and fresh look on the proper ways to use spells. Ed Greenwood should be commended for all that he has accomplished

Keeps you on the edge

I read this book a couple year ago and soon read the sequals right after. This is probably my favorite book. As a chosen of Mystra, Elminster seeks only to do as she pleads and to become someone. This book takes real life instances and turns them into fantasy stories that fantasy lovers can relate to. This book tells of how much someone's life can change so fast. Elminster goes from being a sheppard, to losing his family and becoming a theif, and than learning the ways of Magic and Mystra. Overall this was an amazing book and I urge everyone to read it!

I must say that this is an exceptional book! I love it, the story puts you right into the action, real or not. This is a must for any person who enjoys magic and mystery. I have read this book about 5 times since I first got it, and it is still as good till the end as the first time I read it.

Assume Fantasy

I just finished it and came looking for more about Elminster. This is my first Mage style novel and I am hooked. I liked that there weren't too many intertwining plots to follow. it was easy to read and if I couldn't get back to it right away I was still carrying the plot in my head.

Need a Good Book?

Their fellows running right behind them tripped over the sightless, falling armsmen.' This is an excerpt from Elminster: The Making of a Mage, a book that I have read, and have rated it 4 stars. For the most part, the book deals with theivery, magic spells, and revenge. If you are in need of a book that you can't ther your eyes off of the page, I suggest this one. This book is very realistic and recommended for all ages.
