Although I am a big fan of ed greenwood's, I had trouble getting through this book. I've read the previous elminster novels, all were very good and hard to put down, but this one didn't cut it for me, the story line was a little confusing, requiring you to know quite a bit about the rest of the forgotten realms universe to get all the flashes and cuts in and out of the main story line, and the scenes in hell got to be a little tedious.

I read all of the Elminster books prior to this one. When I purchased it I hope for more of his wit and magic to take me into this world of fantasy. I was disappointed the book is a compulaiton of scenes, phrases and script from all the previous books for at least 3/5's of the book - that was as far as I could go before dedicating the book to my fireplace

I love the rest of the Elminster series.  I couldn't put them down.  This one, however, bored me enough that I'd rather have been doing my homework.  Eww!  It was the same thing chapter after chapter with not much else happening.  I'd probably still read it again in hindsight just to say I read it.

This book from the series is a must read due to the information it gives you about the adventures of Elminster. It explains alot of the characters that will appear in later books. I thought that Ed Greenwood's style of showing what was happening in a mind was quite creative and well placed. The story was made up of multiple section but flowed very well into the next. The way that Ed Greenwood showed a large amount of time and adventures into a single book was quite ingenius though I did wish that he made entire books out of some of the tales. Overall a great read that explains who Elminster is better than most.

This particular book takes a bit more concentration to read, as it skips from first person to third person throughout the entire book. All in al it was well worth the read.

I found this book very interesting. I could not put the book down. It keep me interested to find out what Nergal had in store next for Elminster. What next Elminster would do to protect himself and Mystra. Enjoyed this book.

Elminster lands in hell. This book starts of with the action as soon as it starts off! He's fighting devils and then he goes to transform himself into a rock...to be find by Nergal, a demon who slowly takes all of Elminster's memories.
