Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
Members of the secret society of Harpers, a force for good in the Forgotten Realms, are being murdered, particularly in the vicinity of one Arilyn Moonblade, assassin and adventurer. It appears that she is the target, but she is so well protected by her magical sword that the killer instead preys on her friends and companions. Arilyn sets off in pursuit of the assassin, aided and hindered by the young idiot rich-boy Danilo, who is actually a secret agent sent to help her, protect her, and keep an eye on her. Because all those deaths around her may have another explanation: Arilyn herself may be the assassin, and the Harpers can't ignore the possibility. So Arilyn and Danilo set off on their wild adventure, into intrigue and danger, where their perception of good and evil, old friends and ancient enemies, can change in the blink of an eye. From the assassination of a king at the beginning of the book to the final confrontation, this book never slows down for an instant. This is a reprint of a 1991 novel, and was well worth the effort. It will make the cynical rethink their views on "game world novels" and will delight both fans of Forgotten Realms and lovers of adventure fantasy everywhere. This belongs in all popular fantasy collections. A Good Read

This book was quite good. I love Elaine Cunningham's style. As R.A. Salvatore said, she has a 'Lyrical style and great characters.' The style especially. Elaine has a great way of describing magic and elements relevant to the story. I could totally tell that she went out of her way to make this book absolutely perfect. She draws inspiration for Halruaa from ancient Greece and Rome and the Mediterranean in general. It's unbelievable. The only thing that made me not give this book five stars was that she had a little too much magic. Everything that the characters did revolved around magic and spells and I, even though I love the fantasy genre, would like to see more realism. All in all, though, it was a great book.
