Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn

Shadows of Amn used to be one of my favorite Forgotten Realms book. It is definately better than the first Baldur's Gate book. After I read The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, I had to rate this a four.

    It was pretty good.

I enjoyed this book as much as I could, but the problem was that it went a little too far. The first had a good amount of fighting and great dialoge. But this one just went off subject a bit. Stiil, it was good.

I read this book in 2 days, but....

I thought this book was written fairly well and it kept me interested, but it was disappointing after having already played the Shadows of Amn computer game. Yoshimo and Minsc were in this one, but their parts were so small that if their lines were omitted from the pages, you wouldn't have noticed any gaps in the story. The game also did a much better job telling the story, unlike any other book/movie or book/game that read/played/watched. Don't bother reading this if you've played the game, but if you havn't, read it because it is good and there won't be anything you'll be missing to disappoint you.

The worst, and I mean the WORST, book I've ever read

This is my second attempt to get a review through. The first was propably too insulting or something, since I was being perfectly honest. For someone who enjoyed the game (just about anyone in their senses would), this 'novel' should come as quite a shock. I mean, I wish it was just another 'let's make more money with a popular title' -things, but no, on top of that it is so bad in itself I cannot find a proper adjective. Horrendous? Abominable? Appalling? Those cannot begin to describe it. And what's so badly wrong with it? Beginning from the less serious end, it certainly isn't very splendidly written. And its 'plot' is like some kind of a nightmarish mutation of that of the game, and occasionally bits just don't make sense, are ridiculous or are left unexplained. Things like violence are described in a manner that is occasionally gruesome but usually just boring (I mean, come on, who wants to read 20 pages about someone fighting, badly at that, unimpressive opponents in a single room?). The characters are either pale and ridiculous reflections of those in the game or have been mutated into horrors of their very own, and besides they all seem to suffer from chronic stupidity. And the absolute worse of all is the 'hero', who, using comparations from different fantasy settings, makes Rincewind look like Drizzt Do'Urden. He is absolutely the worst character ever created, possessing the muscle of a panicking herd of buffaloes but unfortunately the IQ, tact, charm, control, morals, nobility, willpower and heroism of a one as well.

Adventuring Nut, knows what he's talking about

I read this thriller, cover to cover in the space of a week and could barely feel myself put it down. The descriptions are incredible and the fight scenes will leave you with a perfect picture in your head. While some may think that the intelligence of the characters in the novel is minimal, if you are adept at seeing the storylines, you will realize that they are actually quite well thought-out and make perfect sense. There are great adventures and perfect fighting. As a player of the game, I found myself captivated by this non-stop, doesn't slow down novel.

Even better than the first...if that's possible:

Even better than I expected. Special features that showed they were really listening to the consumer, as well as a great underlying story line. Incredible graphics, movie sequences, etc. All in all, a top notch game that I would (and have) recommend(ed) to anyone and everyone that even mildly enjoys this type of gaming strategy.
