I thought the storyline in these books took a much needed turn away from the straightforwardness of the last few books where everything seemed to be laid out in front of the reader from the beginning. The development of Wulfgar's character is fantastic, especially when he was originally written to be so two dimensional. I enjoyed this book immensely.

For consistant quality fantasy, no one does it better than R.A. Salvatore. As will all of his dark elf books, Paths of Darkness continues to set the bar. In this quintet, Salvatore takes the opportunity to explore the other characters of the "fellowship" in more detail. I was a little disappointed with where Wulfgar ended up (you'll see what I mean), but other than that it was a great read.
