Meet the Author

R.A. Salvatore
R.A. Salvatore
R. A. Salvatore was born in Massachusetts in 1959. His first published novel was The Crystal Shard. He has since published more than a dozen novels, including the New York Times bestsellers The Halfling's Gem, Sojourn, The Legacy, and Starless Night. He makes his home in Massachusetts with his wife, Diane, and their three children.

Good To Know

Well, I just turned 50, but I'm still a clean-up hitter on the softball field. A couple of years ago, I found myself in horrible shape and feeling lousy all the time, and so, with the help of my wonderful and beautiful wife of 25 years, I started taking my health seriously again. Now I feel better than I did when I was 40. Fit Camp three times a week and yoga and softball and all the rest.

The other thing that I've come to learn about myself is that R. A. Salvatore and Bobby Salvatore are two different people (and I much prefer Bobby, thank you very much). It's not that I lie to readers at book signings, or anything like that, it's just that the things that are important to me are the little things in life: my family, my home. Writing is what I do, but it's not who I am. I remember one time about 20 years ago, I went back to where I had worked to see my brother, who still worked there. Gary was a few years older, and was, of course, my hero. An associate found us in the parking lot and nudged my brother, asking him what it felt like to have a younger brother who was so much more successful than he.

Gary, of course, took it all in stride, turning what might have been an awkward moment into a joke. Gary died a few years later and I'll never forget the lines of mourners -- grown men crying like babies. He was such a big part of the community, as a friend and a coach to so many kids over the years.

That brought me back to the parking lot and the awkward moment, and the truth of it all: I was not and have never been more successful than my brother, and nothing I can do as a writer will get me there. Only the things I do as a human being, a father, a neighbor, a friend, can bring me into his league.

    good

if you do not own these, and you are a Drizzt fan, buy this compilation. You can't go wrong, even if Passage to Dawn is a little weak.

    Drizzt....again!

Although I definently liked the Icewind Dale trilogy better, All four of these books were amazing...but I definently liked 'the Legacy' best. Drizzt Do'Urden is 'The best-loved Fantasy Character' for a reason. Whether he's giving Artemis Entreri the pounding he so richly deserves, taking out Orcs & etc, or just goofing off with Regis, Drizzt is what makes these books so good. (And to think that Salvatore originally created him as a sidekick!) This is a must-have for fans of Drizzt Do'Urden and R.A. Salvatore.

R.A. Salvador, is there any thing he can't do?

Salvador's books are master peices one and all Salvador's charectors leap from the pages and the plot lines are gripping. After reading his books as much as i have you literaly fall in love with the charectors.

    Outstanding!!!!

I love these books! Whenever I finish another series and begin to reread my collection of fantasy books, I almost always start with 'The Icewind Dale Trilogy' or 'Legacy of the Drow'. These books are amazing! I am currently trying to track down the rest of Salvatore's books (especially the ones about Drizzt).

    Da Bomb

WONDERFUL! I read my first book by R. A. Salvatore, Homeland, last summer and I fell in love with it in two pages! Since then I've read Sojourn and Exile. I just finished the Icewind Dale Trilogy and still dream about being a freind of Drizzt, Bruenor, Cattie-Brie, Regis, and Wulfgar! Currently I have gotten all of the Cleric Quintet exept for the first book :*( so I can't start to read it. I look forward to reading EVERY SINGLE R. A. Salvatore book! If you are just now reading them I suggest you start with Homeland so you can get the background on Drizzt's youth. Then Icewind Dale Trilogy and so on and so fourth.

    Excellent Books!!

All four of the books are excellent, Slavatore really knows how to keep his readers intersted throughout the whole book. I've been reading this series since I was in fourth grade and Salvatore just keeps making them better and better!

    kaitlyn

I first picked up the dark elf trilogy in June for summer reading. After I read the first page, I could not put it down. I finished it within two days, and immediately went to the store to buy a copy of Icewind Dale Trilogy. I have to say, all these books are nothing short of amazing. So now I must buy path of darkness!

    Just amazing!

The Legacy was an astounding book, having the action of battle, the description of characters, and an amazing plot that has forced me to read on in the series!

Much better than the first of the series

I have enjoyed the series since sixth grade, unfortunatly I am reading the books out of order. None the less though, the twists and turns of unexpectation is really wonderful. So much more detail and emotion, lets not leave out the irony.

    Insanely great!

R.A.Salvatore made another great book! I liked this book even better because it dealt with the drow once more. I must say, the old single paperbacks had HORRID pictures! I mean, they were ghastly! Heh, saying too much about the pictures. Anyway, the book will keep you up all night. You won't stop until the book is done. Salvatore really focouses up front on what the character is really saying. THe plot jumped around the place. I got real sad when Wulfgur sacrificed himself, he didn't have to do that!
