This entire series has been full of holes and missed opportunities for a real story. It in no way should even be compared to books written by Salvatore or Greenwood. Characters constantly make the most ridicules decisions possible say they have to do better next time then do the same thing. The bad guys just get away with doing the stupidest things like nobody else in the world has eyes. One guy is a known fugitive yet he walks by the house guards who were supposed to be better and sweeps them away and replaces them with his own and nobody alerts the city watch or nothing it is beyond plausibility (all that was just glossed over and implied). This is just one incident but eventually they added up and I could not even continue reading it was just too absurd, which is why this book is not a New York time best seller. This is the first Forgotten Realms book I have been unable to finish and I do not consider myself a hard critic. Made it to the second book this is a reveiw or the series.

I really enjoyed the mystery of this novel. I really didn't think that Thomas M. Reid would pull it off, but he did. He has made some VERY interesting characters, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next two volumes.

This book had a great story. It was one of the best fantasy novels I ever read. The characters were great. You don't see many fantasy/mystery novels. Thomas Reid has done a great job. The twist at the end will throw everybody off.

This book was simply incredible, it is a must read for fans of forgotten realms.

Wow, this book was great. It had an odd--but pleasurable--contemporary feel to it, something that you don't often find in Realms books. Lots of mystery and suprises--at some points it made me feel like it was a fantasy version of Law & Order. Anyway, buy this book. A solid read for any fans of mystery, the fantastic, or Forgotten Realms in general.

Murder. Mystery. Intrigue. Great characters. this book is a must read for any Realms fan. And anyone else really. The characters grow and become endearing. Get this book!! And get Thomas' others as well (including book 2 of the War of the spider queen, Gridrunner, Temple of Elemtal Evil. etc.)!! This a great tale. A worthy addition to the Realmslore!
