(I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review).

    (This review may contain spoilers).

I did like this book more than the first one. The characters were already established and it was good to see that, although Edwin was still more powerful than all of the other characters, there was more of an explanation provided (though not for his earlier skills). It was interesting to see what he could do in this book, though I didn't quite understand all of the gadgets he'd created.

I really liked the fact that the author showed more of the enemy. I would have liked to see more of a background for certain characters, but I still found it fairly easy to engage with most of them.

I liked seeing how Edwin's relationship with Peggy changed. However, I wasn't too keen on the hints of a love triangle. I didn't used to mind them so much, but they've been so over-used, I've grown sick of them.

It was really good to see Edwin have to deal with not having his memories and the friendship he formed with someone who, as a reader, I saw as the enemy at first. I'm interested to see how he'll reconcile his past with what he's seen of the opposing army so far.

I noticed less mistakes in this book, but there were still a few occasions where events I would have liked to see more of were skipped over - Peggy learning to control her abilities, for instance. And I do think that Edwin is coming across as ridiculously over-powered.

At some point, I would like to read the next book in this series. The world is interesting and engaging. I think it's worth giving the book a try.
