When Simon Mason, the world’s best-known televangelist, receives threats from Muslim terrorists, he hires Taylor Pasbury, a beautiful former Secret Service agent, to take charge of his security. Taylor is thrilled to receive the high-profile assignment, but she has no idea that Simon already knows more about her than she could imagine.

When the terrorists strike, making a demand of the pastor that would shake the most steadfast saint, Taylor draws on all of her hard-knock toughness and training as she fights to save Simon and his daughter. Along the way, she discovers that she is not the only one who has done things she would like to forget—and she is not the only one who understands that some things are more important than living.

"James David Jordan pens a fascinating tale that is more than a suspense novel. An intimate exploration of the soul’s need for acceptance and belonging, it touches the nerves of some of our most sensitive fears and longings. Forsaken is a moving and relevant saga of faith on a collision course with the brutalities of our world."

I loved James Jordan's first book, Something That Lasts, so I was very excited to get my hands on an advance review copy. I was not disappointed. I am an avid reader and this is my 'all-time favorite book. You will be hooked from the beginning. Make sure you have plenty of free time before you start this one because you cannot put it down. I still think about the faith-based decision that Simon, a main character, had to make and wonder what I would have done. This is not your predictable Christian fiction, so hang on and enjoy the action-packed ride. I hope this is a series because I definitely want more.

What an intriguing story through former Secret Service now Private Security Personnel Taylor Pasbury's eyes. The entire novel is told in a recitation with bits of humor as if in a verbal report. As a huge Alias/spy-type fan this story was a great fit in genre for me. It is shocking that I had not found author James David Jordan's work before, and now that I have I plan to read much more. I'm especially excited that as soon as I finish this review, I can start reading the sequel to this novel "Forsaken" which is called "Double Cross". Including some of the nit and gritty, this is a very realistic tale that brings to light the good and bad in people. Strength and forgiveness of ones-self are themes as well as terrorism plots and rescue attempts. This was one of those books where when I had to put it down to tend to something else I was amazed at how far I had already read. A page turner and a tool to delve into realism issues of the reader's own-self is only part of what makes this a great book. Highly recommended.

Her father raised Taylor Pisbury after her mother deserted both of them. He trained his tall daughter to protect herself. However when two associates threaten to rape her and they actually murder her father, she kills both of them but feels guilt that she originally ran from the scene. --- In Dallas eleven years later, the FBI informs renowned televangelist widower Simon Mason that a plausible threat from Muslim terrorists has been intercepted. He hires former Secret Service Agent Taylor to provide him and his twenty year old daughter Kacey, an SMU student, security. Filled with importance and pride, as the best known Christian on the planet hired her perhaps that is why she fails to ask him why her. Simon hides from her that he knows much about her including things she don¿t know. He hopes one day he will be able to confess the full truth to Taylor and prays if he can his revelation becomes SOMETHING THAT LASTS forever for her. Soon after being hired, Taylor¿s euphoria abruptly ends when the terrorists abduct Kacey their demand is simply to make Simon turn his back on his religion with a betrayal to rival Judas or never ever see the tortured corpse of his beloved offspring again. --- Although the opening chapters provide insight into the heroine, they feel unnecessary although quite exhilarating as fans will relish this engaging Christian thriller especially once Simon is put into a Hobson¿s Choice dilemma. He and Taylor are fully developed protagonists while the support cast either enhances understanding the quandary he faces, the lead duo, or his ministry. Fans will enjoy the FORSAKEN as to be human is to feel that way sometimes but to be divine is to know no one is fully FORSAKEN. --- Harriet Klausner

Wow! Forsaken is a book you can't pass up. It takes Christian fiction in a new direction. You will fall in love with the characters and feel all the ups and downs and action that will keep you up late at night reading. It is the best book I have read in a long time. I loved Jordan's first book, Something That Lasts, and I can't wait for his next one.

Reading this book was like watching an episode of 24 in book format. This book was heart thumping non stop action from the first page. It's very gritty, not for the faint hearted. I love how the main character is a female who doesn't need to rely on others to take care of herself. Reading about Taylor's past and how it affected her life and career choice was great buildup for the story. This is honestly one of the best suspense novels I have ever read, in both secular and Christian fiction. With plot twists and good character development, this book was hard to put down. The story is very realistic, one could easily see the news headlines actually happening. It's actually scary to think that there could be someone out there who is plotting this exact scenario. The choice that Simon had to make was extremely difficult. It is a situation that one hopes NEVER to have to be in. It really makes you think about what is the most important thing in your life and exactly how strong your faith really is. The ending is rather interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how that storyline is played out. I'm highly anticipating the next book in the series. This is one book that you could easily pass on to guys who claim to hate reading. It will definitely grab their attention. HIGHLY recommended.

Dear AmyAnn,
If you're reading this, l have begun a new journey. It seems to be l only got a one way ticket over here. I sure wish l could hold you one more time, kiss your beautiful lips. And sing to you one last time. I have thought of you throughout the weeks. Waiting to come home to you, and l'm sure you've been waiting too. I apologize that l didn't return the way you wanted me too.
I won't be there for the birth of our little girl. But l hope she has your eyes and smile, and that she fights like me, standing up to the big bullies in her life. She won't have a single memory of me, so l'm asking you if you'll lay her down each night and show her a picture of me. And tell her l'm watching over you. I know it's hard to not have a father, so please don't let my memory die.
Tell my parents l love them. My dad was mad the day l told him l inlisted myself. But if you would, please tell him l don't regret that l followed in his shoes. Tell my mom l'm laying down my gun, l'm hanging up my boots, l'm up here with God, an we're both watching over you. Tell her my soul is were she always prayed that it will go. And the angels have the most beautiful voices l have ever heard.
I have just one more request. Lay me down in that open field by the edge of town. I have so many memories of that field. I remember, that's where l first kissed you. That's where l used to play when l was a yound boy. I would be greatly honored if l was lai<_>d to rest there.
I love you, AmyAnn. I never will stop. From the time l ever set my eyes on you, l've been in love. Don't be sad for me, love. I'm in a better place. I have now moved on. I'm your guardian. I will always be watching over you, protecting you.
If you're reading this, l'm already home.
Forever Yours,
Jake
{Author's Note.
