    Great book!

Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprise how engaging and entertaining this book was for my 3 1/2 year old daughter. It was well written. Now my granddaughter understands the difference between fortunately and unfortunately.

    A fun read!!!

I was invited to be a mystery reader for my son's kindergarten class and i went looking for a book that I thought the whole class would enjoy. I read many great reviews about this book so I thought I would give it a shot.

When the book arrived, I gave it a read after my son went to bed and it made me chuckle and I knew this was THE BOOK that I would read. The story allowed me to get the kids involved by asking them questions, add my own comments, and to animate myself to make the kids laugh.

I had a great time reading this story and the kids had a great time listening and participating with the story.

    great book for K-2

My husband loved this book as a child, and our daughters love it, too. Appropriate for 4-7 year olds. Easy for early readers.
A bit rough for the very young or very sensitive, as Ned falls from an airplane and gets chased by sharks and tigers, but the "fortunately... unfortunately..." events are funny enough to make it fun, and he does make it to his party in the end! I read it to my daughter's 4 year old preschool class last year, and the kids really liked it - especially the boys.

    Great book for teachers

This book is a great tool for teachers. It is fun for children to hear as a read-aloud and lends itself to many lessons. Its format can be used to make book reports, biographies, and auto-biographies, experience charts etc. For example a book report for Little Red Riding Hood may go something like this: Fortunately, Little Red Riding Hood was going to visit her grandmother. Unfortunately, she had to walk through the woods all alone. Fortunately, her mother told her not to speak to anyone. Unfortunately, she didn't listen. Etc. It's a fun way for students to present a book report. I was in a course for teachers of the gifted and the professor had us brainstorm ideas to use with this book. The teachers were very impressed with the book and many ran out to buy it right away. I highly recommend it.

I first read this book to my son when he was three years old. Twenty-seven years later he still remembers it. I'm thrilled to see it still in print. It will make a special stocking stuffer for his christmas

This book is a fun, sing song kind of book that young children will love. This was a favorite at our home.
