Overview

New in the series that's "a must for British cozy fans" (Booklist).

Lois Meade has worked through all the days of the week, turning up clues and scrubbing up messes and murderers in the village of Long Farnden. But sleuthing is rarely a spotless endeavor...

A series of robberies have begun to plague Long Farnden, and Lois's own daughter, Josie, is shaken when a thief makes off with a hundred pounds from the till in her grocery shop. But before her policeman fiancé can crack the case, someone cracks Lois's husband on the head when he interrupts a burglary in progress. Now Lois-and the besotted Inspector Cowgill-must determine who's cleaning out Long Farnden, and clean up after an increasingly violent crime spree...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Set in the English village of Long Farnden, Purser’s less than suspenseful 11th mystery featuring Lois Meade and her New Brooms cleaning service (after 2010’s Threats at Three) lets the reader know what’s going on well before Lois does. When two brothers steal the cash out of the till of Lois’s daughter Josie’s shop, and later one of them whacks her husband over the head with a jemmy, Lois sets out to catch the malefactors. She turns to Det. Chief Insp. Hunter Cowgill for help, but she leaves the inspector behind when the trail leads north to Yorkshire. A subplot involving one of Long Farnden’s leading citizens, elderly Mrs. Tollervey-Jones, offers further intrigue. In past outings, Lois’s powers of observation and cooperation with the police often led to a startling conclusion, but series fans expecting the same here may be disappointed. (Dec.)

Praise for the Lois Meade series:

"Well paced, cleverly plotted, and chock-full of cozy glimpses of life in a small English village...A fine series that just keeps getting better--a must for British cozy fans."--Booklist

"First-class work in the English-village genre: cleverly plotted, with thoroughly believable characters, rising tension, and a smashing climax."--Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Library Journal
Don't miss housecleaner and sleuth Lois Meade in her 11th outing (Threats at Three). The working-class Miss Marple is always welcome.
