Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This new collection of contemporary graphic design inspired by (or derived from) found objects comprises work submitted by a variety of design studios and accompanied by commentary from the creators. The relatively broad criteria result in a wide range of work that is ultimately only as interesting as the submissions themselves. This makes for a rather bumpy (albeit sometimes rewarding) read; diminutive graphics, poor project documentation, inconsistent presentation, and haphazard layout only compound the situation. Containing the work of more than 30 international designers (e.g., Chip Kidd, Chase Design Group, Stefan Sagmeister), the book struggles for an identity of its own and compares unfavorably with other, more carefully curated design compendiums, such as those published by the AIGA, Communication Arts, or the Type Director's Club. Drate (Extreme Design), a designer of CD packaging, presents a book that is exclusively targeted to members of the graphic design profession and suited only to the most complete collections in larger libraries or design schools.-Phil Hamlett, Turner & Assocs., San Francisco Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
