Foundlings, book one of The Peleg Chronicles is Historical Fiction "Fantasy" that takes place in the time period of Peleg, soon after the tower of Babel dispersion. In its pages we meet with dragons, giants, false priests, the death hunt, an under-city of the dwarven brotherhood, and many memorable characters. The story begins with Lord McDougal and his faithful shield-bearer, Fergus Leatherhead, departing their lands with giants at their backs, while before them lie in wait denizens of the bog-land and forest. Ever ready to protect and serve others, they gather in tow an assortment of displaced adventurers and find themselves embroiled in a mysterious search for the foundlings.
Foundlings weaves together the Biblical principles of chivalry, truth, courage, duty, faith and love within the framework of Genesis, and a bold adherence to its historicity. It's an exciting page turner that leaves you wanting more, but more importantly it leaves the reader with Godly heroes to think on and emulate, and a young earth creationist view of history that conforms to the Word of God.

Editorial Reviews

Christian Book Distributors - Nigel Andreola
"Like gnarled roots of an old tree, these stories twist and turn, entangling you in anticipation to see how they all unwind. Maybe these "Magic-free" character-building, God-honoring novels will start a new trend ... I hope so! For preteen readers and older."
The Christian Fantasy Review - Phyllis Wheeler
"Bible-believing Christians will get a bang out of this book. It re-supposes early human history in a refreshing way, and spins a bundle of intertwined yarns that are entertaining and imaginative. Its heroes depend on the Lord for help. Unlike other fantasy works, this one contains no magic, no evolution, and no humanism."

Meet the Author

Growing up in the new-age teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the ascended masters, I quickly delved deeper into the occult of the Satanic Bible, Astral Projection and drugs. Taught that I would one day fly and walk through walls, I was on a search to enter the magical worlds that I had read about in fantasy novels and the writings of Eckankar.

Addictions, broken relationships, and a belief in reincarnation brought me to the point of jumping from a tenth floor window. At the critical moment, my two best friends appeared on the sidewalk below.

While a freshman in college, a young woman read to me from the Bible, trying to reach me with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I stared dumbly through drunken eyes, and only wished to get away.

While a Junior, I sat alone in a coffee shop, caressing the drugs in my pocket, wondering if there was more to this life. A stranger approached the table, and told me that there was no sin too great, and that God could forgive me. The stranger walked away.

While a Senior, a young lady invited me to go tobogganing. I accepted, only to find out she hadn't said the word "tobogganing" but "to-bible-study." I went. The preacher said that Jesus was the only way to Heaven, and Hell was the destination for all who would not receive Him. I was filled with such anger that it shocked me.

A few weeks later, while walking on campus, an old man walked up to me and handed me a Bible. He was a Gideon. I began reading the Word of God for the first time. Troubled by these Christians and their narrow way, but afraid that hell might be real, I asked God to show me if it was actually true. The Word suddenly came alive, and after some weeks of reading every day, I repented, trusted, believed, and confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior.

I graduated from St. Olaf College with an English degree: and the University of Arizona with a Masters in Special Education, Vision and Orientation & Mobility. I also attended the Sorbonne in Paris, and studied in Thailand. I've lived in Minnesota, Connecticut, Arizona, and now reside in Gloucester, Virginia - where I write and work as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist training the blind to travel.

Set in the day right after the flood of Noah makes this book original and exciting! I have read Foundlings three times now and have yet to get tired of its much needed message and thrilling ride. It is hard to find books that are so Biblically accurate and wholesome in today's society. Any avid reader will not be disappointed! Giants, swords, mysterious inventions like wet-fire, dragons, lords, castles, and evil dragon priests all give this book incredible action and extraordinary twists! I love Harding's unique characters: McDougal for his Noble spirit and oddities, Fergus with his quiet manner and loyal nature, Theiry for his chivalrous quality and passion for God, and Oded the giant whose simple mind gives way to a master animal trainer, which gives his personality an interesting twist. This is only to name a few of Harding's intriguing characters that give his book its flavorful read. To sum it up, it was refreshing to get a hold of such a wholesome book and I am looking forward to reading Matthew Harding's second installment. Kaleb "14"

As a high school teacher I recognize the importance of children having a solid foundation to guide them through life. Foundlings helps instill and develop a Godly character in both children and adults. It will grab the attention of the reader. It has a fast pace - there are many dangerous adventures that the characters encounter in which they use prayer and call on the Lord for help. I loved the qualities of humility and courage throughout. I'm excited to read the next book in the Peleg Chronicles. -Pauline O'Neil

A PLAYFUL AND FANTASTIC APPROACH TO BIBLICAL HISTORY Let's just say that I'm glad I got the current set of all three books in this wonderful series. The characters are well written, and the author let's you spend time with each one. The action and adventure in the Foundlings is sure to please almost any fan of fantasy fiction. The best part is that Matt uses a biblical history viewpoint and weaves this throughout the story. None of his stories have magic, evolution, or humanism. I like this approach. About halfway through the book, I decided to share some of the book with my wife. I read her a few pages and she didn't let me stop until I finished the book! Now we've started book two "Paladins" and we both can't wait to find out what happened with Thiery, Fergus, McDougal, Oded, and even the complex Rosencross! I do enjoy that the characters are not one dimensional and that there is depth and growth in each one. It's fun to see Gimcrack the dwarf overcome his fear when the chips are down, and Fergus Leatherhead as he grows in spiritual understanding of God.  Matt Harding's writing style and fun wordplay will have you turning page after page and enjoying every minute of it!
