About the Author

Harry Alverson Franck (1881 - 1962) was an American travel writer and teacher in the early 20th century. While in college he bet a fellow student that he could travel around the world without money. A few years later he set out to prove it. For the next sixteen months he worked his way around the globe and chronicled his adventures in hs book, A Vagabond Journey Around the World (1910). The book sold well enough that he was encouraged to continue his travels. He wrote a total of twenty-four books detailing his travels between 1910 and the 1940s. The last book, Winter Journey Through the Ninth describing the conditions in eastern France during World War II, was not published until the year 2000.
Most of his works are out of print, though used copies can usually be found.
