Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In 2004, with their quaint, hippy earnestness sitting outside the embrace of Seventies campy retro-cool, it's hard to believe that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY) were in their heyday crowned "the American Beatles." Yet their impact on pop music is undeniable. Zimmer, a music writer and entertainment industry executive, here compiles 31 articles spanning the group's 35-year on again, off again career, most of which Zimmer collected while researching his Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: The Authorized Biography. The scope is narrow: only articles from mainstream publications like Rolling Stone, People, and the San Francisco Chronicle are included, and there is a definite West Coast bias. However, most of the pieces are excellent, especially the four written by wunderkind rock journalist-turned-film director Cameron Crowe and Zimmer's 1980 interview with Graham Nash. Unfortunately, the articles assume that the reader already knows why CSNY is important, making it a necessary read for fans but of less interest to those unfamiliar with the group's music or soap-opera history. A good complement to Zimmer's earlier tome but optional for most collections.-Lloyd Jansen, Stockton-San Joaquin Cty. P.L., CA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
