Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
The transition from third to fourth grade befuddles Suds Morton; according to PW, ``Rapid-fire dialogue and a hilarious string of episodes unfold a story with a valuable message about peer pressure and the importance of being oneself.'' Ages 8-12. (Mar.)
School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-- The book's title comes from a playground rhyme, ``Third grade angels!/Fourth grade . . . RRRRRATS!'' Joey Peterson, the best friend of Suds (the story's narrator), takes the rhyme a bit too seriously and instructs Suds, Svengali-like, in the ways of rebellion and macho bravado. Complicating things is the long-standing crush Suds has on Judy, a girl more interested in seeing bugs crawl all over him than in having him open doors for her. The short-lived rebellion is finally squelched by Joey's mother, and Suds is relieved to return to his old habits. This is a fast-paced story about kids growing up too quickly. Some of the characters are exaggerated but believable, and the scenes in which Joey tries to toughen up Suds are especially funny. This should prove a popular addition to most collections. --Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Pub . Lib . , IL

The fourth grade rats is a very good, funny, and good for kids. I recommend this book to anybody and hope you think the same. The fourth grade rats is about two kids named Joey and Suds. Joey had herd of a saying that when you get to fourth grade you become a rat. Joey takes it serious and becomes a bully. But Suds on the other hand still wants to be a third grade angle. So threw out the book Joey tries to convinces Suds into being a rat. The main characters are Joey and Suds. Joey is the rat/bully and Suds is the nice third grade angle. Will suds become a rat? Will Joey get in trouble for trying to convince Suds and being mean to people? Read the book and find out what happens and why and read The fourth grade rats.

I had bought this in paperback because we had just finished reading third grade angels but I couldn't find it so I bought it on my nook and the kids loved me reading from my nook! I just wished an adapter was an option so I could put it on my screen.

An amazingly funny book! I was laughing outloud! Joey's opinion of becoming a man was to first be a rat(a fourth grade rat). But Suds was cautioned to become a rat.Although both Joey and Suds were friends, Joey embarrassed Suds occasionally. A wild adventure about two boys(Suds and Joey)trying to grow up to fast. I think it tells that being tough is not the first step to beig a man. I reccomend it for anyone that's looking for a good laugh. I loved this book!

One the best books I read was Fourth Grade Rats. This book is told in first person and he is the main character and his name is Morton other character are Judy, Joey, Joey¿s mom and Morton¿s parents. The setting takes place at the first day of school Morton plays with his friend Joey at the playground then they go to lunch and Joey tells Morton to stop bringing his lunch and he tells him real 4th graders buy their lunch and Joey tries to make Morton act like a 4th grader not like a baby and if you want to know if Morton changes or not it will be for me to know and for you to find out by reading the book.
