Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
What do you think would be the average life span of a fox in the wild? Would it be five years, ten years, or fifteen years? If you thought it should be 5 years, then you are right. Most foxes only live five years, though some do survive closer to ten. Due to the low survival rate, many varieties of foxes are becoming endangered, and humans are their biggest predator. Unlike wild dogs or wolves, foxes do not travel in packs. They have always preferred a solitary life, except when they are breeding. There are approximately 23 species of fox found on every continent but Antarctica and Australia. Foxes dives right into the heart of the animal world and gives insightful information into the life of a fox. The colorful and intimidate photos take the reader into the wild and let them experience the real world of how these animals survive. Check out the "Did You Know" sections in green for cool and unusual facts, and then skip to the back of the book for the "Find Out More" section, where additional books and websites are listed. The more technical terms can be found in the glossary, and a quick review of the index would benefit any young writer working on a book report. This book is part of a series called "Animals Animals" that should be a part of any library.
