Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Mark Gonzalez, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: The book is a multinational compendium of articles about distal radius fractures.
Purpose: The authors did not write a preface or opening statement. The book provides a broad coverage of research and surgical techniques applied to distal radius fractures. The exposure is particularly interesting because many of the techniques discussed, although commonplace in Europe, are infrequently seen in the United States.
Audience: The book is an advanced text on this subject. It is appropriate for hand surgeons, hand fellows, and orthopedic surgeons who have an interest in this area. It is too advanced for medical students and beginning orthopedic residents.
Features: The quality of the diagrams is superb. The book is well referenced with very current material. The table of contents is useful, and the index is complete.
Assessment: The book is an advanced treatment of a difficult topic. The articles by European authorship are particularly interesting because much of this literature is not in English and is frequently inaccessible to American surgeons. The chapters are well written by authors with excellent credentials and experience.
