Redemptive and touching, Fragile Beasts is a tender and intelligent novel by the beloved New York Times bestselling author Tawni O'Dell.
If you want an engrossing story with characters so real you hurt for them, read Tawni O'Dell's books. This one may be her best.

This book has so many layers. Almost every character breaks your heart and makes you love them. It is sad and funny all at the same time. I didn't want to finish reading this book, and that is saying a lot. I have read this author's other books and while they were okay, they don't come anywhere near this one. I would have never thought it was by the same person if I didn't know before opening the cover. Enjoyed it start to finish.

I had never read a book by O'Dell until this week, and it was then that I discovered that I could not stop reading because of the storylines, the interaction and multi-levels of the characters' personalities, and the unique connection between past and present events. I e-mailed the author after reading the book to let her (O'Dell) know the impact that this book had upon me as I read it. When an author compels you to actually care about the characters, the book takes on a whole new life of its own. When each character is speaking to the reader, an understanding of his/her traits come through with the reader wanting to know more about the character's thoughts and decision making processes. O'Dell is to be commended on tackling so many life issues in one book without bogging the reader down with unncecssary trivialities.

An easy, interesting read. Provides an insightful look into the world of Spanish bullfighting and a touching portrayal of brotherhood. A perfect book for someone looking to take a peek into another culture while following the stories of lovable characters.

Fragile Beasts is so good I hate to put it down. I have read 4 of Tawni O'Dell books and have enjoyed every one. Looking forward to the next book she writes.

I was required to read "Back Roads" for my college psychology class and have since found O'Dell's writing to be up there with some of the best. This book was of no exception! O'Dell paints a portrait of a truly dysfunctional family. Set in the same town as her classic "Coal Run", this novel tells the story of two brothers orphaned when their father dies (their mother had long ago abandoned them) and who are taken in by the lady whose family owns the infamous J&P Coal Company. The old lady and the two teenage brothers work to deal with their emotional losses and help one another see the light. The dialogue, always O'Dell's strongest point, is pitch perfect and I found myself laughing long, hard, out-loud, and accompanied by tears. Some may say that the emotional points are overdone, but I found them to be exact and work well within the novel!
