Overview

Six years after trading in his combat gear for hospital scrubs, Luke Rafferty is faced with things just as heartbreaking as those on the battlefield. The abused children being brought in by the pretty redheaded social worker tug at his soul like nothing he's ever known.

For Devon Manning, being a social worker is a rewarding job, but also a constant reminder of her own troubled youth. Devon takes everything one day at a time-unable to form a relationship with anyone except the children she rescues.

When Luke meets Devon, he thinks he might have found what he's been looking for, but in order to get the life he wants, Luke has to break through Devon's emotional barriers and make her realize that his healing touch might be just the complication her life needs...

    Fragile by Shiloh Walker

Whew! My heart is still racing after finishing "Fragile" by Shiloh Walker. This is an expanded version of an e-book story titled 'Share and Share Alike', but even though I had already read the e-book, I was still riveted to the pages of the expanded novel. The tension was high, the mystery was intricate with plenty of suspects, and the sex was hot, hot, hot.

Devon survived the death of her parents only to end up the victim of a child molester. After running away, she spiraled down into drugs and life on the streets to forget. It was a social worker who saved her life and now, as an adult, Devon herself is a social worker fighting for children who can't fight for themselves. She's built a life for herself but is alone. Her buried fears means she's never been able to get close to a man...until a handsome doctor cares enough to break down her walls.

Luke is an ex-Army Ranger medic who's seen more than his share of cruelty and inhumanity. After a horrible injury, he leaves the military for life as a civilian doctor. From the first, Devon's air of fragility coupled with her inner strength fascinates him--but he also realizes she's wary and hiding something in her past. As he finally begins to get closer to Devon, she suffers a horrible attack and their life suddenly seems to fall apart. Suddenly she seems to fear Luke. Is she losing her mind...or is there someone else out there?

Chills, thrills, and a love story that will stay with you. But now I want the story of a couple of the secondary heroes...don't know whether to appreciate that or be frustrated :)

    Good read!!

I continue to enjoy Shiloh Walker's writing style. If you have not read any of her other books/shorts this is a great book to start with. The characters stepped off the page and I was entranced. There was more than one twist that I did not anticipate, which only helped me to enjoy this book even more. I just ordered Broken and can't wait to read it as well. The story of the twin brothers how the are different but the same is interesting. The development of the romance, well I love that kind of thing. If you don't like suspense and romance, don't bother. But if you want a suspense with a little romance and a pinch steamy, look no more.

    Engaging

well written, engaging. characters thought out. did not see the ending coming. red herrings well laid. the only complaint i have is that i was "thrown out" of the book with the scene of their first date. book is set in lexington, ky. ms walker is native to the state. she has to know that the city banned smoking in public. other than that i loved the book.

    Disappointed

This was not one of her better novels, plot/storyline was predictable. Usually when reading Ms. Walker's novels I am drawn into the story from page 1. When I purchased it I did not read the first page, because its Shiloh Walker. Normally I never have to that with her novels, this was so bad I returned it. Her paranormal romance novels are a great read, with little of the original history of charactors found in the plot.

Shiloh Walker has written another amazing novel!

This is my second book by Shiloh Walker that I've read and I like I said in my first review of one of Shiloh Walker's novels (The Missing) to say this it definitely won't be my last one. I've heard many good things about Walker and I decided to give her novels a try which is how I found out about her contest that would give me a try to sample her work. I won this ARC of her upcoming release Fragile, which comes out in four days on Tuesday, February 3rd. I loved it so much that I finished it in almost a day after I started reading it. In order to win this contest I had to have an established blog, which means I have to have posted fairly regular before posting about this book and I also had to write up an honest review on what I thought of this novel such as if I liked reading it or not.

My honest opinion of this novel is that I absolutely loved it! I think you might have figured it out when I mentioned that I finished it very quickly after I started reading it because I just couldn't put it down for more than 5 to 10 minutes. From the first two or three pages I knew I was hooked because I felt the characters popping out at me with such emotion that is always a good sign that I will be enjoying this novel very much. The hero of the novel is named Luke Rafferty and the heroine is named Devon Manning and they are both such complex characters with very difficult backgrounds that have made them the adults they are in this novel. Six years after trading in his combat gear for hospital scrubs, Luke Rafferty still hasn¿t found what he¿s been searching for: a normal life. Luke has had a tough time since he was injured in an operation years ago that had him changing his life completely than what he would have imagined. Luke's twin brother Quinn who had a horrible childhood alongside their mother a drug addict has never been a social person and that hasn't changed.

Luke and Quinn had a rough start when they finally met one another when they were both 11 but they have a relationship just like any other identical twin. At his job as a doctor, Luke is faced with things just as heartbreaking as those on the battlefield, none more so than the abused children brought in by a pretty redheaded social worker. That is one of the highlights of his job, which is seeing the pretty redhead social worker even though it's under such horrible circumstances. For Devon Manning, being a social worker is a rewarding job, but also a constant reminder of her own troubled youth. Devon had a harsh childhood ever since both her parents died in an accident that had her sent off to her money hungry aunt for her mother's side. Devon has been in the system just like all of her social worker kids have been but she has been through and done things that sometimes resurfaces when she works with a particular child.

Devon takes everything one day at a time¿unable to form a relationship with anyone except the children she rescues so her love life is complelety non-existant. But when Luke meets Devon, he thinks he might have found what he¿s been looking for, but in order to get the life he wants. uke has to break through Devon¿s emotional barriers and make her realize that his healing touch might be just the complication her life needs. I much enjoyed reading this novel and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read it before it was made availble to the public so I could write up this review. This is a book that I will highly recommend to every reader out there.

This is an exciting character driven romantic suspense thriller

Six years ago, Dr. Luke Rafferty left military combat medicine to become a civilian ¿combat¿ doctor working the emergency room working especially with abused children. His vocation introduces him to children¿s social worker Devon Manning. The pair are attracted to one another and begin a heated affair.

As they fall in love, someone stalks Devon; an individual who seems to know not so public facts about each of them. Whereas Luke believes he finally found what he was looking for when he left the military, his beloved social worker is reminded why she prefers working with troubled childhoods; her belief is that she only relates well with kids due to her awareness that relationships end in a relatively short time. She plans to end hers with Luke who she believes deserves better, but he insists he loves her. As he struggles to break down her reinforced barriers, they uncover the identity of her stalker, which only fortifies Devon¿s belief she can never have anyone permanently in her life.

This is an exciting character driven romantic suspense thriller as Luke battles on two fronts. He must convince Devon they belong together and uncover who the stalker is and why. The support cast is solid especially Luke¿s reclusive twin and the other grunts from their military unit. Devon is also a strong character as knows love is fleeting as people leave. Shiloh Walker provides a tense thriller starring a hero finding what he has been seeking seemingly forever and his FRAGILE beloved who is ready to flee.
