Meet the Author

Mirabai Starr is an adjunct professor of philosophy and religious studies at the University of New Mexico. A certified grief counselor, she is an accomplished writer and expert in world religion, critically acclaimed for her translations of the Spanish mystics, which include Dark Night of the Soul (Riverhead, 2002), The Interior Castle (Riverhead, 2004), and Teresa of Avila: The Book of My Life (New Seeds, 2007). Once you survive something that should've killed you, people treat you like a fragile doll. They expect you to either always be depressed, or to mak th best out of life. "It's a miracle," they'll say. <br> The truth is, it doesn't take any talent to almost-live, or to almost-die, either.
