Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-These short profiles are interspersed with maps, reproductions, facsimiles of documents, and photographs. The texts are clear and accurate, but relatively dry. Facts are stated in a dull recitative voice that gets the information across but without any panache whatsoever. The Spanish translations are accurate but no more inspirational than the English. Notwithstanding, the content is solid, certainly a plus given the dearth of information on Attucks, Love, and especially Alvarez, a heroine of the Texas Revolution. Each volume concludes with a time line, glossary, one-size-fits-all Web address, and a brief, half-page index. For collections in need of biographies, these are reasonable additions.
