Overview

Frank Sinatra is an international icon who continues to hold endless fascination for millions of fans. In this authoritative biography, John Frayn Turner examines every aspect of the charisma, character, life, loves, failings, and fame of Ol' Blue Eyes. Fresh and objective - and not obsessed with mafia allegations - this is a book about Sinatra the good guy as well as the bad. From Sinatra's humble beginnings in working-class Hoboken, to his start in the business singing with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, through the scandals, the loves, the music, and the movies, Turner looks closely at the singer, actor, philanthropist, and man - a three-dimensional view of a complex genius.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
'Chris Rojek's study Frank Sinatra is simply brilliant. It is far and away the best study of Sinatra and a U.S. popular singer that I have read. While there are a small row of classics on the great rock singers, pop performers like Sinatra have mainly received celebrity gossip treatment. Rojek's study however, deeply probes Sinatra's celebrity status, including his singing career, his film work, his nightclub and concert tours, his connections with major politicians, and more notoriously, with the Mafia and a series of highly publicized sex scandals.' Doug Kellner, University of California, Los Angeles

Right from the start I knew this book was a dud. Mr. Rojek states he was not interested in writing this book, his publisher made him?? Anyone who has this mindset at the outset of any project dooms it right then and there. There are so many more worthy books to read on Ol Blue Eye's, this one simply regurgitates some common information that even the least Sinatra fan would know. Don't waste your hard earn dollar on this poor excuse for a book and next time Mr. Rojek show some enthusiasm for what you do or simply don't do it, shame on you! If you want to live with Frank during the peak of his creativity and power read George Jacobs ¿My life with Frank Sinatra¿. This man was Franks Valet from 1953 to 1968 and has stories only he could tell and it¿s not here say, he was there. It¿s a great very fast read which I find myself rereading from time to time.
