Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Sue Preissner
Another sports celebrity, brought to the printed page by Lerner, is represented in this slow paced compilation of personal facts and professional statistics. In most of these biographies, scant information about the subject's life, growing up, education, hardships, and successes is covered. While the text does make a point to emphasis hardships and overcoming adversity, reading in detail about specific games (particularly high school and college) is not apt to engage the middle school reader for any length of time. Bold terms, defined in the glossary, promote the understanding of the sport; however, you need to read several of these biographies to amass enough information to truly understand the sport. Glossary and index are included.
