Children's LiteratureThe thirty-second president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt who first took office in 1933, is brought to life in this short, informative, easy-to-read "Rookie Biography." As president, he helped America through the Great Depression and World War II, not referred to here by name but more generically, which is appropriate given the supposed audience. Black and white photographs are uncaptioned (except for two labels). The text mentions Roosevelt's childhood contracting of polio and one photo shows him in a wheelchair. "Words You Know" comprises a picture glossary which also reminds readers of some of characteristics of Roosevelt's life, as well. An index is included. 2004, Scholastic/Children's Press, Ages 4 to 8.
