Children's LiteratureHere is a very good case of learning a little bit and jumping to a big conclusion. Franklin sees a sign on his friend Skunk's house saying that it has been sold. He informs his mother that Skunk is moving and then runs off to tell all his friends. They all feel sad about losing a good friend and plan a big farewell party. As an added dollop of humor, Franklin has forgotten to invite the guest of honor, but she shows up anyway. Well skunk is moving, but not very far and the farewell party turns out to be a "not-going-away party," because Skunk is now Franklin's new neighbor. Franklin has been around for a few years, and young readers may have had some of his books read to them. The new series of early readers will let kids read about Franklin on their own. A Level 2 Reader in the "Kids Can Read" series, targeted to kids who may need some help with reading. 2003, Kids Can Press, Ages 6 to 7.
