Barnes & Noble - Michael Endelman
The Viennese duo Dzihan & Kamien produce a luscious sort of electronic music that is most obviously compared to the output of other Central European acts such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, Jazzanova, and Beanfield. But whereas those groups take inspiration from Jamaican dub, Cuban salsa, and American jazz, Dzihan & Kamein's debut disc, Freaks & Icons, scours the music of the Middle East and North Africa for minor-key melodies, propulsive hand percussion, and exotic string arrangements. This type of electronica is usually categorized as "downtempo," which is ironic, considering that the first two tracks -- "After" and "Dabudei" -- are relentless, ...

This type of electronica is usually categorized as "downtempo," which is ironic, considering that the first two tracks -- "After" and "Dabudei" -- are relentless, percussion-driven numbers that could energize dance floors from Cologne to Cairo. But Dzihan & Kamien live up to the tag later on, as "Homebase" brings the mood down with slowly rolling drum patterns and mournful violin moans. Halfway between Middle Eastern mood music and Teutonic groove theories, Freaks & Icons blurs the border between East and West with cosmopolitan style and suave beat science.
All Music Guide - Mario Mesquita Borges
Innovating and experimenting with new impressions on club/dance and house styles while adding Eastern ambient features, European duo dZihan & Kamien delivered an exhilarating debut album, managing to offer distinguished and unblemished sounds. Focusing on Eastern music influences shared by both Mario Kamien and Vlado dZihann and supplying structures from trip-hop to jazzy rhythms, the duo team is able to construct new formulas for the electronica genre. "Streets of Istanbul," the most recognized track from the full-length, reveals the guidelines of Dzihan in the best way, outlined by Eastern strings, sound lineaments, and moody beats. The disc flows with offerings of gleaming tunes like "Dabudei" and dense and chilly themes such as "Homebase" or "Slowhand Hussein", underlining the resourceful marks of the duo.

''The most Breath Taking CD of the Century!!''

While in the book section of the store,I heard this ''hypnotic rhythm'' flowing over the speaker system, someone asked me for my pen which stalled me from getting over to ask:''who is that playing??''...So finally I arrived, and purchased the last CD available.
