Disney's success with its 1998 Parent Trap remake bodes well for Freaky Friday -- the 2003 film also stars Lindsay Lohan and is itself an updated version of a Disney classic. Lohan's Freaky Friday is thrust into the 21st century by a fast and furious pop-punk soundtrack where tween angst reigns. This disc opens with Simple Plan's pogo-ready cover of the Turtles' "Happy Together," which is given a high-energy, high-adrenaline makeover. In a similar vein is the Halo Friendlies' teen anthem "Me vs. the World" -- "the world is winning," for those who are counting -- but the pièce de résistance is Bowling for Soup's rendition of Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time," ...

In a similar vein is the Halo Friendlies' teen anthem "Me vs. the World" -- "the world is winning," for those who are counting -- but the pièce de résistance is Bowling for Soup's rendition of Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time," which is transformed into a brooding ballad courtesy of a slower tempo and a whisper-to-a-scream vocal delivery. On "Backstage," the always charming gals comprising the Donnas decry the posers who try to snag backstage passes, but they're just slightly outdone by an appearance from the late Ramones frontman, Joey Ramone. His heartfelt version of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" is a next-generation classic, as the lanky singer's snarling monotone reveals his tender side and a peppy backbeat keeps the pace. This polished disc -- which also features radio-friendly tracks infused with girl power and lovestruck lyrics from Lohan and Christina Vidal, who plays her best pal -- should have no trouble finding fans among the latest legions of plaid shirt– and combat boot–wearing kids, who hopefully will remember where pop-punk began in the first place.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The soundtrack to the remake of Disney's classic generation gap switcheroo Freaky Friday definitely reflects the musical tastes of the movie's teenage girl instead of her mother, with whom she trades bodies. Crafting a soundtrack that reflected both mother and daughter's favorite songs might have been a more clever move, but packing the album with teen pop, punk, and modern rock was probably a more marketable one. Like most teen-movie soundtracks, Freaky Friday is something of a mixed bag, offering a lot of familiar songs and some real standouts. Falling into the second category are tracks like American Hi-Fi's Green Day-esque "The Art of Losing," the Donnas' snotty "Backstage," Andrew W.K.'s anthemic "She Is Beautiful," and Joey Ramone's cover of "What a Wonderful World," which somehow manages to remain true to his musical heritage as well as Louis Armstrong's better-known version. Most of the other covers on this soundtrack will sound familiar: Simple Plan, Lillix, and Bowling for Soup turn in versions of the Turtles' "Happy Together," the Romantics' "What I Like About You," and Britney Spears' ."..Baby One More Time," respectively. Likewise, the feisty girl rock that populates the album -- meant to reflect the Avril Lavigne-esque lead in the movie, who has her own rock band -- runs the gamut. Aside from the aforementioned Donnas, the album also offers up songs from several other female artists, ranging from the rather teen poppy "Ultimate" by Lindsay Lohan to Lash's sneering, strutting "Beauty Queen." The Halo Friendlies' "Me vs. the World" and Christina Vidal's "Take Me Away" sound made from the same mold, but all in all, Freaky Friday is a serviceable soundtrack.

Freak Out! A Freaking Good Soundtrack

I heard snippets of a few tracks online and thought - 'Hey this soundtrack sounds cool' so I figured I'd buy it and see if the rest of the tracks kept the same standard - and they generally do! Perhaps not the greatest soundtrack on earth but songs like Lillix's cover of 'What I Like About You'(GREAT song, GREAT band) and Lindsay Lohan herself singing 'Ultimate'(she's extremely talented) really makes this cd ROCK! It's a soundtrack for the 'younger' generation but I'm sure there are 'oldies' out there who'll enjoy this compilation very much. But why judge the Freaky Friday Soundtrack by what I say? Go out there and see for yourself!

    Priceless!

No more fighting over what to listen to in the car: this is one CD both parents and children can agree on! The tons of covers by some of today's hottest up-and-coming stars makes it the perfect CD for any age group! Some stand out tracks are Simple Plan's "Happy Together" and Lillix's "What I Like About You" which, in my opinon, outdoes the original! Lindsay Lohan also debuts her singing talent on "Ultimate" which is a really fun, up-beat, carefree pop number. And pop/punk band Bowling For Soup's cover of pop princess Britney Spears' "..Baby One More Time" is priceless ;) I'd deffinetly recommend this CD!

    Lillix Shines Through...

While the Freaky Friday Soundtrack includes some great bands like Bowling for Soup and American Hifi, the real band that stands out on it is the Canadian breakthrough band, Lillix. These four girls and their cover of What I Like About You is definitly the best part of the CD. The song is catchy, fun, and full of energy, and I'm sure its going to be a hit. If you like pop/rock bands and your into happy go lucky songs, this soundtrack is

Movie and Soundtrack of the summer!

I borrowed this CD from my friend after watching Freaky Friday (which was very awesome, may I add :D). I liked it so much I wouldn't give it back to her and just ended up giving her the money to get herself another one. YES it's that good. Very fun and totally what everyone needs to end up the summer on a musical high note. This is just what I need to get dancing out of my bed every morning. This is a satisfying CD whether you are into pop, rock or punk. My mom even liked it. Lindsay Lohan's musical debut was a lot better than I would have anticipated. The song "Ultimate" which is featured as the first song on the soundtrack will be stuck in your head all day. Other favourites of mine would have to be "Happy Together" by Simple Plan, "Backstage" by the Donnas and "Take Me Away" by Christina Vidal. This CD is a total showcase of the hottest upcoming young artists bound to take over the airwaves. My absolute favourite song on the album would have to be "What I Like About You" by the new Canadian pop-rock sensation girl group Lillix (Tasha-Ray, Lacey-Lee, Louise and Kim). You know what song that is! It's the one from the movie that had you dancing in your movie seat when it came on! These girls put a modern fun rock twist on an amazing classic song. Think that was too many positive adjectives for one group? Take a listen for yourself. I'm sure after listening to their cover of the Romantic's classic hit on the Freaky Friday soundtrack, you will no doubt be intruiged to pick up their debut album "Falling Uphill". Their album and the Freaky Friday soundtrack are definitely the must have albums of the summer before you get back to school! Overall an awesome CD. This is one of those great CD's that you won't have to skip songs with -> though you might be like me and love Lillix's cover song so much that you put it on repeat ;)

    Everyone needs a theme song....

Have you ever had one of those CDs that you never took out of your CD Player? The only time you DID take it out was to put it right back in your stereo? It's almost like your background music. Well consider the "Freaky Friday" Soundtrack the background music to your life. But isnt there always one song that always sticks out in someones mind? Like the theme Song? Well the Re-make of famous 'What I Like About' you by Lillix will surely be the one song you CANT get out of your head. Everyone needs a little "freakyness" in their life. Make this soundtrack YOUR soundtrack.

    A Clever Remake...

The other day I picked up the soundtrack for "Freaky Friday", knowing that it was going to be a little young for my age, but saw that a few of my favorite artists, such as Lillix, Simple Plan, and The Donnas were featured on the cd. I grew out of the "pop stage" a few years ago so I was doubtful about some of the other new artists, such as Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson, though. After giving the cd a couple run throughs, I found that the soundtrack was actually better than I had expected it to be. I give credit for Lindsay Lohan on her debut song, "Ultimate" because there are so many cross over actors to musicians these days and some just can't cut it. However, I believe that she gave it a fair shot and did fairly well on the track. I also found that the tracks "Brand New Day" by Forty Foot Echo and "I Wonder" by Diffuser stood out as more of the likeable songs on the album. I realized that the soundtrack featured quite a few covers which included, Simple Plan's "Happy Together," Lillix's "What I Like About You," and Bowling for Soup's "Baby One More Time." However, I feel as though Lillix's cover of "What I Like About You" stood out as the best remake on the album as well as the best featured track on the soundtrack. This new Canadian girl group's remake compares variably to the original by the Romantics. They were able to capture positive and fun vibe of the song as well as give it their own twist which shows the abilities of these late teen and early twenty aged girls. They really know how to use their abilities as musicians to recreate the magic of the song. Every time I hear the bass solo which Louise Burns, the bassist, pulls in the song, I get chills up my spine in amazement of her talents. These girls really know how to rock and I see a bright future for them as a pop-rock group. The "Freaky Friday" soundtrack provided me with more than I had expected and I would recommend it to you if you are looking for a fun-filled cd that will make you want to get up and dance!

Lillix is on this album and they rock!!!

This soundtrack is awesome! Why is it awesome you ask? Because Lillix is on it of course! Lillix isn't a new band but I'm sure you haven't heard of them because they aren't that big yet but thes things take time! Lillix is a four girl rock-pop band I guess you could say from a little town called Cranbrook, BC, Canada. Lillix's debut cd entitled "Falling Uphill" which features their first single "It's About Time", their remake of "What I Like About You" (which is on the Freaky Friday Soundtrack), and their soon to be second single "Tomorrow". These girls are awesome! They write their own music, play their own instruments, and they don't need to wear skimpy outfits for people to show up at their shows because their music is more than enough to do that. So go out and buy the Freaky Friday Soundtrack...or better yet, go out and buy "Falling Uphill" so you get more than one song from Lillix. With Lillix you can't go wrong!

    The Best Soundtrack

This Cd has some really good reamakes. There was the Britney Spears song covered by Bowling For Soup, then Simple Plan's version of "Happy Together," and Lillix's cover of "What I Like About You." I liked Lillix's song and I also love thier album, "Falling Uphill."
