In their latest adventure, Fred and Ted pack a picnic basket, jump in their cars, and hit the open road-but as usual, things don't go as the doggy duo plan. They encounter muddy roads, thunder and lightning, tire-piercing cacti, and overenthusiastic tire inflating that almost sends Fred into orbit! Perfect for P. D. Eastman fans, dog lovers, and families on car trips, this is a beginner reader that harkens back to the best of the Beginner Books edited by the Good Doctor himself.

This ebook includes Read & Listen audio narration.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Nancy Garhan Attebury
Dog friend's Fred and Ted encounter one slap-stick incident after another in this humorous book from the "Beginner Books" series that helps students read all by themselves. In this delightful story, Fred and Ted set off to take a trip and have a picnic. However, they encounter a storm and head to the desert only to find that Fred has acquired a flat from cactus stickers. A silly bit is shown when Ted tries to pump up Fred's tire and Fred ends up flying in the air. In the end, the friends return home to have their picnic in their own yard. The concept of opposites is highlighted with Fred having a green car and Ted having a red one as well as events that show clean and dirty, over and under, hot and cool, and wet and dry. Most words contain one syllable and colorful illustrations aid in ease of reading by closely following the text. Each page has only one or two sentences on it. This book should be made available to emerging readers. Readers who enjoy this book can also read Fred and Ted Go Camping and Fred and Ted Like to Fly. In addition, the popular author has written other "Beginner Books." Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury
