Fourth in the “Zapato Power” series, this edition follows the adventures of Freddie Ramos, would-be superhero. This first chapter book follows young Freddie who possesses special purple sneakers that give him Zapato Power, not explained in the book. Pair that with his special purple wristband and it is all Freddie needs to go about the neighborhood righting wrongs and doing good. The minimal text and easy vocabulary is early reader friendly and the setting and story is one that youngsters can relate to in this eight chapter book. Who hasn’t dreamed of being a superhero? When Freddie sees something amiss in the neighborhood he engages his special equipment and Zoom! Zoom! Zapato!, he flies off to remedy the situation. Occasional black-and-white cartoon drawings will aid in keeping early readers engaged in this simple story of life in Freddie’s world. Freddie looks a lot like that old cartoon character, Sluggo. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger, Ph.D. AGERANGE: Ages 6 to 8.
Jacqueline Jules wishes she could run like Freddie in his magic purple sneakers, but she is satisfied with walking around her northern Virginia neighborhood.
