    buy it!

I love this book. It's vibrant, original, and fun. Most of the quilts are based on traditional blocks - log cabin, half-square and quarter-square triangles, checkerboard, churn-dash, and simple stripes - but their execution is fresh, and - most importantly - easy. The quilts are very artistic, yet even as a novice quilter, I look at them and think, 'I can do that.' The artists, Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran, use very brightly -coloured fabrics coupled with lots of dramatic black and white. They don't give step-by-step directions to replicate their designs, but instead provide pointers for creating individual blocks and instructions for assembling finished pieces. I don't yet own this chock-full-of-ideas, can't-wait-to-start-a-new-project book - but I know that I soon will
