Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Frederick, the poet mouse, stores up something special for the long cold winter. His stories and poems entertain his friends, and the collage art is just right for the story.Times Best Illustrated Book, Caldecott Honor Book.
Wilson Library Bulletin
While other mice are gathering food for the winter, Frederick seems to daydream the summer away. When dreary weather comes, it is Frederick the poet-mouse who warms his friends and cheers them with his words.

Want to share this book with my granchildren

I remember reading Frederick when I was young. For whatever reason I have always remembered the book and what it was about. While all the other mice are gathering food for the winter Frederick can often be found daydreaming in the sunshine. The other mice think he is just lazy, but in the middle of the cold and dreary winter, Frederick shares his daydreaming with thw ohter mice, bringing color and warmth to the winter. It just goes to show you everyone has their own strenghts and differences. But, still we can all help each other. Thats what I want to share with my grandchildren.

My 3 year old and I love this book

I received Frederick from a friend and I had it in a pile of books to read to my son when he got older (5 or 6). However, I got it out early and after reading it the first time, it is now one of our favorites to read before bed and we read it almost every night. It is so soothing with a beautiful message. One night when I was very tired I asked my son to read it to me. He had memorized the story and read it to me paraphased saying all the right things on the right page. It was one of his sweetest moments. Read this book to your child. It is wonderful!
