Overview

Some people write armchair travel books that reveal the seemingly lost arts of wine making and croissant baking and stone masonry, as might still be found in the rural parts of France or Italy. This book is for the rest of us: anonymous words of truth and homespun advice from hotel walls and budget restaurants, as observed by typical tourists. These phrases assure us that, even though we may be far from home, we are still among our own kind. Here’s a toast to the real people who wrote these words, wherever they are.
*On a kitchen knife made in Korea: "Keep out of children"
*A restaurant menu in Nepal: "Fried Friendship, Grilled Dachsund and Complimentary Glass Wine or Bear"
*In a Rome doctor's office: "Specialist in women and other diseases."
*In a Swedish store window: "Fur coats made for ladies from their own skin."
*From an interview with Madonna in a Hungarian magazine: "In America it is not considered to be mentally ill when a woman advances on her prey in a discotheque setting with hardy cocktails present. And there is a more normal attitude toward leather play-toys that also makes my day."
*and much, much more!

Katie in San Jose
4 stars -- I bought this book just before running to catch my plane a few years ago with my brother. It was a short trip from California to Oregon. I have never been so buried in a book! I completely forgot where I was or that my uncontrollable snorting laughter would disturb others around me who must have considered locking me in the bathroom at some point in the flight.
If you find Manglish funny, you will love this book...just maybe don't read it in public? :)
