Overview

A fun family vacation turns into an apocalyptic nightmare in Free Falling when a couple and their young son find themselves trapped in the Irish countryside during an international crisis. With all contact outside the country gone, all electricity and all non horse-powered vehicles useless and desperate bands of outlaws roaming the Emerald Isle, the time has come for one soft American family to reach deep within for the reserve of brains and courage to survive.

This is an excellent apocalyptic page-turner where the petty and typically American fears of the (truly heroic) heroine...faces a horrific life-threatening situation, and a bunch of really evil baddies, in rural Ireland. The story is truly credible and well told; it races along with a lean and mean narrative where brutality and violence is set off with some nice feminine, maternal and wifely touches and American introspection. It's a movie just waiting to be made.

Fear of Falling also made me question myself. Could I be strong and resilient like Sarah? Could I do what I had to do to survive? Do I have the knowledge and skills needed to be like Sarah? Would I do what Sarah did to ensure her and her family's survival? Fear of Falling made me think. Do I as a American think I am entitled to the best of everything? Is that part of what makes Americans American? There are a lot of questions that came to me as I read. I'm not sure I have the answers.

Oh, I enjoyed reading this book so very much, a page turner, great characters and I want more, I want a 2nd book for this one. There are a few characters that I'd like to see how they made out in their lives. This is a must read!!!!!!

I truly enjoyed this book, could not put it down. The characters were realistic and endearing. I felt very connected to Sarah and her struggles. The plot moved quickly, was entertaining and evoked quite a bit of emotion for me. It also was a quick read, I was able to read it in one sitting which I liked a lot.It was an amazing account of how life would change if all our luxuries were taken away.

What a thought-provoking book! Imagine having all your electronics...ripped from you. Harder yet, imagine being in an unfamiliar country when a disaster happens. This book tells the story of how a family...transitioned into survival mode after an electromagnetic pulse, while vacationing in Ireland. I would highly recommend this book to both teenagers and adults as it showed how a family worked together once all forms of of today’s distractions were removed from the picture. A great read!

I just kept coming back for more. Priorities are set straight and fierce love of family nurtures newfound strength and courage as an American family struggles to survive in rural Ireland with bare essentials. Horses, other animals, good guys and bad, serious suspense with just the right touch of humor. What an adventure! Loved it!
