BOOK ONE OF TWO. This series can be read alone or with the Fixed Trilogy.

Screw fairytales. The only reward Gwen Anders got from her rough childhood was a thick skin and hard heart. She's content with her daily grind managing a top NYC nightclub--Eighty-Eighth Floor. So hers isn't a happily ever after. She doesn't believe in those anyway.

Then she meets JC.

The rich, smooth talking playboy is the sexiest thing that Gwen has ever encountered, but she's not interested in a night-in-shining latex. But when a family tragedy pushes her to the brink, it's JC who's there to teach her a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires. His no-strings-attached lessons require her to abandon her constant need for control. Her carefully built walls are obliterated.

Gwen discovers there's a beautiful world outside her prison. Freedom is exhilarating--and terrifying. When she starts to feel something for JC, she fears for her heart. Especially as she realizes that he has secrets of his own. Secrets that don't want to set him free.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars!! “The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do.” Free Me is a spin off from the Fixed Trilogy, but can totally be read as as stand alone. I really enjoyed the Fixed Trilogy, so I couldn’t have been more excited about this book. And once I read the synopsis, I knew I had to read this book. And let me tell you, it was such a delicious read. I was pulled into the story from the very first page. My interest was peaked and I was dying to know more. The more I read, the more I fell in love with the characters. This book was exactly what I was looking for. It was hot. It was sexy. It had romance. It had drama. It had angst. God, I loved the angst. With lines like these: “I was numb. Everywhere. My body, my skin. My lips. My chest. Inside my chest. I was void. I was space. I was a vast universe of nothing, nothing, nothing.” or “He’d shown up like my knight in shining armor, and I wanted to believe that it meant something. That I was someone he wanted to save. That I was worth fighting for.” My poor heart didn’t stand a chance and I loved every second of it. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was well-written and entertaining. My only complaint and it’s not even really a big complaint, was that I wish this story had been told from dual points of view. I am dying to know JC’s side of everything!! That being said, even though the story is only told from Gwen’s point of view, it was still really enjoyable. Free Me took me on one heck of a journey. My emotions are still all over the place. The ending just left me begging for more. I am dying to read Find Me and see how everything will come together in the end! *I was provided an ARC copy of this book via InkSlinger PR, in exchange for an honest review*

Secrets and More JC and Gwen are both adults that tend to stay rather closed off to the world regarding personal matters and closeness with outsiders. That characteristic slowly begins to change on a random Tuesday night that has Gwen reporting to work on her day off; there was her first chance encounter with JC and though it starts off terse, it certainly won't be the last. JC has a way of cracking through Gwen's stone exterior and with that follows affection and more. I just wish JC was so hot and cold; it's like having to leave your warm and toasty house and a bitterly cold and windy Winters one like that *$%&! LOL Laurelin writes a story full of secrets, angst, really sexy grown-up time, and suspense that all adds up to a perfect introduction for Gwen and JC. I can't wait to see this story unfold in the conclusion entitle Find Me. Fabulous as always.

I loved Alayna and Hudson and their story and that's how I fell in love with Laurelin Paige's writing and her stories. And Free Me was definitely not a disappointment. In a way if was even better than the Fixed Trilogy. The story is intriguing and entertaining, filled with hotness and sometimes humor and peppered with danger and excitement. It kept me on my toes until the very last word and after I finished, I just wanted more of JC and Gwen. The story was only made even more interesting by the unexpected twists in it. It just kept me guessing till the last moment and I can honestly say that I still haven't figured out everything that's going on. Which I must say doesn't happen often. JC and Gwen are quite interesting characters. They are both broken due to traumatic experiences in their past. And they both chose to close themselves from the world and save themselves the hurt of a heartbreak. The moment they meet, the attraction between them is simply undeniable and none of them can resist it for long. They are sizzling hot together and simply explosive in bed. So the no-strings attached relationship is not a surprise. The problem is that their relationship doesn't stay that way. In each other they find a deeper understanding and without even realizing it, their feelings get deeper. In a way, they are perfect for each other. And just when they finally find the peace they are looking for, both their pasts come chasing them. In Gwen's case, that's the nightmare she lived through as a child. In JC's case, his whole past is covered in secrets and shadows, With every secret he reveals, there are just more questions popping up. And let me tell you, even if you manage to guess some of the secrets, you will be still quite surprised by the rest. The only thing is that the book finished with such a cliffhanger, that I am dying to get my hands on the next one. If all that is not enough for you to pick up Free Me, keep in mind that JC is one hot dominant alpha male with a broken heart and soul. He is also romantic and tender and simply a god in bed. And who doesn't love a broken bad boy with a chance for redemption. So if you ask my opinion, this is definitely a must read. The story will intrigue you from the first sentence and simply keep you on your toes until the last word. I am pretty sure that you will love Gwen and JC and you will also get the chance to meet Norma, Hudson and Alayna again. The book is intriguing and it has romance, tenderness, humor, danger and excitement. So get your #oneclick finger working and pick a copy. And I know I usually don't end up my reviews with quotes but there is one in this book that simply got stuck with me. So I decided to share it :) "The current age is but a brief moment in the greater scope of existence." This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog. I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Great book! I am obsessed with the fixed trilogy so I loved how this continued off that series. It was fun to get to read about who Gwen is and you get to fall in love with both her and JC! Can't wait for book #2!!

I loved this book.

Great characters, Gwen is strong and controlled to a point, JC is sexy, mysterious. Different twist in the story line. But really at 30 Gwen still has some major issues? She acts much younger. Letting her older " Sissy" take care of her. Not taking caregiver herself. Gwen & JC keep their relationship purely sexual for a while then boom they are madly in love. Too fast with not much of a gradual build. But stll good.

I loved getting an insight into Gwen's life and also being able to understand and like Norma. I pictured Gwen completely different before this book. I loved every word and I can't wait for the next book to see how the story unfolds. I like how it coincides with the Fixed series.

Well, I am a big fan of the Fixed books and was excited that there was going to be a spin off and have been waiting for Free Me to arrive. It was a great read and took the story and started much before the end of Forever with You, there were a few scenes that were in Forever with You that were told from Gwen's POV and brought you back into Hudson and Alayna's story (and I LOVED these books so I enjoyed this very much). I enjoyed getting to know Gwen and seeing how she dealt with her relationship with JC at the same time demons in her past. I was going back and forth between liking JC and then not so much. The jury is still out for me and am looking forward to what Find Me brings us, there were a few times I got upset with Gwen's actions and then times when I was impressed, she really never lost herself. In the end, I really really enjoyed reading this and am a little bummed that we have to wait for the next book (not long, but still a wait). In this book you learned a lot about Gwen but also insight into her brother and sister (who works for Hudson and is in the Fixed books) and understand what life has been for them, what they all have had to do to overcome and open up to the thought of love in their life. By the end of the book I felt like I really understood Gwen and I was happy to see her be strong and put her 1st even if it hurt. She asked questions, waited to get answers, tried to understand them, and then make the right decision for her.  There is really so much for to learn about JC and I think this is what is coming in the next book Find Me. We will have to wait and see what Gwen does with this information!

I received an ARC copy of Free Me from the author and I've been (im)patiently waiting to write this review! Gwen is a strong, controlled and non-emotional person. To see her feelings develop for JC and watch her let go of some of the much needed control in her life was great. Two words - club kitchen...OMG!!! JC...oh, how do I describe this man...I was on the edge of my seat waiting to know more about him. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough when he was allowing Gwen in. When they had those moments of opening up to each other, my heart went pitter-patter. Overall, I LOVED it!! I was super excited when I heard Ms. Paige was writing a spin-off of The Fixed Trilogy although I was somewhat worried as to whether Gwen and JC could "compete" with Laynie and Hudson. Well, there's no need to worry - there's no competition. I fell in love with Gwen and JC just as deeply and quickly as I did with Laynie and Hudson. The only similarity with the books is the huge book hangover I have right now. Can't wait for the next one - just like with The Fixed Trilogy!

I LOVE Laurelin Paige!! Everyone of her books are SO HOT!! With that being said, this one was no exception!!! JC is so cocky, and arrogant with a capital A!! When I write reviews I'm not one to give away alot of info on the story, I just like to give my opinion of how I felt about it and then the reader will, soon enough, find out more than what I've said. I LOVED this book! I was captivated from the first page, and quite frankly, had a really hard time putting it down to take care of "life" things!! This is a great read and if you love Hudson like I do, you'll be glad to see him in this story!! You won't be disappointed in this book! Looking forward to the next one by Laurelin Paige!

I was given the Audio book for an honest review and I can say I totally enjoyed the book.  The narrator was great - and that is what you need for a great audio book.  The only problem I had is that sometime it was tough to tell if Gwen was actually thinking or speaking to someone.  The story line is great - Gwen was an abused child, along with her older sister and younger brother.  JC is determined to break through her icy exterior and he plans to do it with lots of HOT SEX - but with just sex, no personal information about each other - not even there last name.  I am not usually one to like the drama in books, but Laurelin has a way with words and I only got bored with the drama a few times.  The only part that I really wanted to skip through (which if I would have been reading I would have) was the part with her father.  Now the ending is a little on the head slap side and thought it should have been handled differently, but it did not alter my thought on the book in the entirety. And not only does Laurelin write the drama well she absolutely writes the SEX very well!!!  We can all just dream about having a delicious man like JC.  So reading or listening this should be a MUST on your list. Beware though, it is the first part to a two part series.  The second book "Find Me" is due out in Aug of 2015.

Prior to reading this book, I was not sure if I would love it as much as I loved the Fixed Trilogy. I mean, how could the male lead possibly measure up to my expectations? I shouldn't have worried! J.C. and Gwen were so captivating. I really loved this story. J.C. is the perfect kind of man that I like to read about...strong yet vulnerable, sexy, very protective, and imperfect. I didn't see that curveball coming! I love the way Laurelin Paige writes and look forward to the second book of this 2-book series.
